Juanes unplugged is the sixth album in Juanes' solo discography (excluding the DVDs 'El diario de Juanes' and the re-edition of 'La vida es un ratico'), 2 years after his last album, the 'P.A.R.C.E.' debacle, Juanes' new album is but a reinterpretation of his most famous songs in an unplugged version. Recorded on February 1st 2012 in the New World Center in Miami, Florida and produced by Juan Luis Guerra, the album revisits Juanes's discography (curiously enough P.A.R.C.E. is omitted) with new arrangements. Juanes and JLG had previously worked together in 2010's 'La calle', included in the album 'A son de Guerra' by JLG. An irregular album, the results of this unplugged are... well, mixed...

The opening song, 'Fijate bien' pretty much defines what to expect from the rest of the album, the influence of Juan Luis Guerra (JLG) is notorious from the very beginning, if it weren't because we know these songs already this could definitely pass for a JLG album sung by Juanes. 'La paga' is a pleasant surprise but too similar to the original in my opinion. In an attempt to strip down the songs and make them sound different, tracks like 'Nada valgo sin tu amor', 'Volverte a ver', 'Para tu amor' and 'Es por ti' loose their charm in their unplugged versions and sound mellow and slow. 'Todo en mi vida eres tu' , the first new song in the album, is a soft ballad that only seems to drag the album further. 'A Dios le pido' is another highlight of the album, but it suffers from the same evil as 'La paga', they sound very similar to their original versions, there does not seem to be any added value to these versions at all. 'Hoy me voy', is another ballad now sung as a duet with Paula Fernandes, from Brazil. The version is a mixture of bachata-bossa nova-ballad that served as a single for the album.

If you know Juanes, you know he's always good for surprises. But this album exceeds any expectations. A powerful unplugged interpretation of his oeuvre. This fantastic, meticulously planned piece of art makes it difficult to pick a favorite: But - Fijate Bien MTV Unplugged even beats the original which brought Juanes numerous accolades. The new songs "Todo en mi vida eres tu" and "La Señal" show the artist's endless potential. AAA - and a strong buy!

With a mixture of old favorites and some new songs, Juanes once again proves that he still has the magic. There are some surprises on this album, even for hard core Juanes fans. All of it is good. There is nothing pedestrian about the music, and some are both haunting and evocative in their purity.

I'm glad that I was able to receive this a lot quicker than I thought. I couldn't find it anywhere in stores and was a little hesitant to buy online, but it turned out better than I expected. The package arrived in very good condition and the overall quality of the music is excellent. The album it's self was really good and for making his comeback, Juanes couldn't of done better. Now, as a fan of his older music rather than his latest two releases ( P.A.R.C.E and Loco de Amor) I consider this to be the last album he made that still contained the raw elements of what made him an excellent musician. However, there was two songs in there I didn't like only because they were too different than what Juanes would normally venture musically. The producer (Juan Luis Guerra) did a good job as well but he added instruments that I believe didn't go with the rockish/pop style im use to. Still it's good and it's a must have for anyone that is a fan and wants to sit back on a Friday afternoon and relax.

A good rundown of some his best songs. I noticed the glaring absence of "Nada" but there are some little gems here like "Azul Sabina" with the maestro Joaquin Sabina. I recommend this to any fan of Juanes or latin rock in general.

Sone of the arrangements are boring. This cd functions more as a greatest hits package rather than a worthy unplugged album. Hope Juanes recover from this creative mess they have been since their last disaster album.
