i'm used to dinosaur phones -ya know from 2 yrs ago... sigh... so this is software is pretty amazing. very user friendly. I didn't want a 16 gb phone but I have all the apps I wanted (3 lol) plus many that came with the phone. I can delete or disable them if i wanted too and still have internal space left. plus I can add a 256 SD card which would go beyond what i need for storage. its smaller than my LG G3 but i'm fine with it. Not sure yet about the camera though- it seems pretty low end and that could be a deal breaker for me but overall I am content....for now.
This isn't a Galaxy S or Note but if are like me and refuse to buy into the scams of needing a $600 -$900 phone I don't think you would be disappointed. Why spend hundreds of $$ on an expensive phone that is still going to have its issues (ports going bad, overheating, BT not working to name a few) when you can get a named brand entry level phone (though reviews list it as mid entry level-not sure yet) for hundreds less.
Even though I've read a lot of complaints about the camera, the resolution is higher than my old smartphone, and looks like a regular picture. Plus it is better at taking pictures in dim lighting.
The phone app responds to light when you take the phone away from your face, almost as fast as an iPhone. To try to describe this better, say you call a business and it has a phone tree "press 1 for finances, press 2 for human resources..." etc. You have to listen, then take the phone away from your ear. Phones go into screensave mode when against your face. When you pull it away and light hits it, the screen should come on. My old phone was so slow to react to this I often had to press the 'home' button to enable the screen manually. My work iPhone is very fast with this. This Samsung is about 1/2 second slower than the iPhone--fast enough I don't have to hit the home button, and fast enough that it is lit by the time my finger is near the screen.
The display is pretty with good contrast and color.
The one downside is that the 'menu' button that is to the right of the home button on some phones I've used has been replaced with an iPhone-like "app scroll". I'd rather have a menu button, but this alone isn't a dealbreaker as every app I've used so far has had an onscreen way to bring up a menu.
If you plan on getting a ton of apps, recording high quality videos, or playing all kinds of games, than it might show the short comings of the phone. If you're a simple user and just wanna get a phone that's relevant in today's market and that's reliable, then its a great purchase.
The only thing I did on the Tracfone website was give the new phone's serial number and tell them I wanted to keep the same number. Left the phone on and waited. About 15 minutes later the phone chirped and dinged and I had a text saying my phone number was changed over. The phone through Samsung has a way to geo-locate your phone through their website. Google also allows you add a voice unlock after you set up the passcode.
The earpiece and speaker sound is good; pictures and video better than my old phone. Buttons on my phone are not stiff and work through the OEGO defender case just fine. I think I will like this OS better once I get used to it. There are useful apps and I spent the rest of the day playing with setup. Easy to use. Even one-handed thumb use is naturally easy. Much lighter weight and easier to hold than my old phone and same sized screen. Processor speed I would describe as instantaneous.
I think the J3 Luna is a great value and deserves its place as a best seller for the pay as you go phone user.
