This is my first real smartphone, upgraded from an LG 800G. Right out of the box, it feels "expensive"-- heavy for its size, with smooth lines and a very responsive capacitive touchscreen. I spent some time getting acquainted with the OS before transferring my TracFone account to the new phone. The basic layout is very similar to the 800G, but everything runs faster and looks crisper, and there are many new options to customize the overall look and feel.
When it comes to making and receiving calls, this is the best TracFone I have ever owned. It gets at least two bars everywhere, even in places where my old phone had none. I see the roaming indicator often, but TracFone bills roaming minutes the same as normal ones, so it's not an issue.
I don't have much smartphone/tablet experience to compare with this one. At first, I was overwhelmed by all of the new features available to me. It took me a few hours to go through all of the options and get things set up the way I wanted, and to get used to the way that the display rotates with the phone. Now that I've had time to adjust, I'm thrilled with the speed and flexibility of the Android 4.4 KitKat OS, though I have mixed feelings about the amount of Google integration.
My only real complaint is that, like other Android devices, the Optimus Fuel will only run apps from the internal memory. I was disappointed because I thought I could use the phone's expanded memory the same as its internal memory. The phone has no trouble reading music, pictures and other non-app files from the SD card. Apps vary in size and I seem to have more than enough room for the ones I wanted most, but I can't just add tons of games and things on a whim.
