I was intrigued by their friendship. It was obvious they knew so much about each other and valued their relationship. When Sebastian pops back up in Julia's life, it's under less than ideal circumstances. He pulls her into his incognito world that is endangering to both of them, yet Sebastian can't help but have someone close to him around. Sebastian is a great guy, very gentlemanly, loyal, protective and caring. He's also brave and compassionate. Julia herself is very trusting, loving, friendly and warm.
Even though I liked both of the main characters, I still felt like the story lacked a little bit of something. It's not particularly steamy, but it's obvious how Sebastian and Julia feel about each other right from the beginning. The plot was good and well-paced overall.
It has it all love, hate, twists and turns, drama. Once I started it I didn't want to stop but some parts of it are so emotional I had to put the book down but that didn't help me either because I couldn't stop thinking about what the characters in the book were going threw. This book had me gripped from the beginning to the end. The emotions just leap of the pages. I couldn't help but feel the emotions that the characters felt.
I wish I could give this book more then 5 stars. I have to say I think I found my new book boyfriend in this one.
If it isn't the scenes that catch your attention it's the characters with personalities that stick in your head. The characters in this book were meant to be from page one to the very last page. I wish the story didn't end and maybe she will write a short story to finish off this wonderful cliffhanger we get left with.
I highly recommend all of Kate Squires books and hope to see more coming soon.
This was quite a bit different from my usual reading – mostly because the bedroom scenes were “fade to black.” Let’s face it, I love so-called mommy-porn, but I found that the fade to black did not detract from the story. In fact, because of the relationship that Julia and Sebastian have, it’s much more appropriate to leave it a little more on the innocent side. Now before you get worried – they were adults, but they had started out as childhood pen pals.
I loved this story – flat out loved it! Friendship that turns into love is only part of the story. There is naiveté that leads to misunderstands as only a young person can know it. There is intrigue, suspense, a touch of humor, and plenty of emotional tension.
Now, I feel that I should warn you. There will be tears. Especially when Sebastian _____ - and not once, but twice!!! I swear I heard the author cackling evilly. There are also plenty of tender and sweet moments to make the reading worth the tears expended.
I fell in love with all of the characters, main and secondary. They are all well-written, enough that I feel like I’m leaving my friends behind as I close the book.
This is the first book I have read from Kate Squires. I sincerely pray it is not my last.
Sebastian and Julia meet when they are in 6th grade and are assigned as pen pals for a school assignment. Sebastian is living in Germany on the base as his father is in the military. They continue their writing for several years.
They meet face to face when Sebastian makes a trip to the United States as he feels he needs to be there for Julia is going through a tragic time in her life. There is a misunderstanding and he disappears from her life.
Sebastian comes back into Julia's life a few years later and accidentally pulls her into harms way.
I like the way the story is told by both Sebastian and Julia so you get both their takes on what is happening in their lives and their thoughts, feelings.
It is very hard not to give out spoilers. I will just say that I laughed, I cried and I got the whole 'pit in my stomach' feeling during one part in the book as I just couldn't believe they would come so far and not have a HEA.
I really, really liked this book.
