Multi-platinum recording-artist Bryan Adams has announced the release of his new covers album, Tracks Of My Years , a diverse collection of time honoured classics from the 50 s, 60 s and 70 s.
The album will be released September 30th and features a wide range of influential musical styles, from Chuck Berry's "Rock & Roll Music", Ray Charles' "I Can't Stop Loving You" to the Beatles' "Any Time At All". The album will also include a brand new track entitled, She Knows Me co-written with his long-term writing partner Jim Vallance. The Adams/Vallance partnership was responsible for many of Bryan s classic hits including Heaven , Summer of 69 and Run To You .
"Making the selection of the songs for the album took a long time" noted Bryan. "We recorded all kinds of songs until the songs sort of presented themselves, or sounded different enough from the originals. We did about 3 months of recording, spread out over the course of 2 years. Radio was king when I was a teenager," Adams reflected, "you'd hear McCarney's "Admiral Halsey" straight into "Kiss and Say Goodbye" by the Manhattans. Radio didn't discriminate back then".
"Tracks of My Years" is an eclectic mix of songs reflective of the time when rock was played alongside pop, country and R&B, and follows Adams critically acclaimed acoustic album, 2010 s "Bare Bones", a release that resulted in sold out shows across Europe, North America, Australia and South Africa.

I was a huge fan of BA in the 80s and into the 90s but I cannot bring myself to appreciate this album. He just seems to be making albums for something to do and doesn't seem to care if anyone likes it or not. I do not. It's a far cry from his great albums such as Reckless and Into The Fire. I played several songs on it and that was all I had to hear. I will never play it again. What a let down.

Wow, what a great album! I've listened to this over and over again...... Bryan Adams' voice complements these songs so well.... Lots of people do covers of old stuff, but it's not often that every cover is better than the original recording..... every song on this album is good.

I actually don't see other people's point and I think this album is a real gem. It's possible that I'm quite a bit older than the people who wrote their comments here and perhaps that's what makes the difference. Like Adams, I also grew up listening to these songs. And like Adams, as he mentions in several interviews, at the time, I didn't really put much value into many of these tunes. He says he had Creedence albums but not those of some of the other artists' songs he chose here. And yet, we were all very aware of those melodies then. They have become the soundtrack of our youth. So sentimentality probably plays a part in appreciating these, but I also feel his versions are remarkable. I love them all. Great album, in my opinion.

Of course everyone has different opinions and fans of all types of styles. Bryan has those styles covered here. I haven't purchased anything of his in years and when I heard he was doing a cover album, it caught my attention. Sure, I wasn't crazy about all the covers, but listened to his renditions and have a new appreciation of the songs. Songs of The Beatles, Dylan, Beach Boys, Fogerty(CCR), Chuck Berry, Smokey Robinson he covers among others. If you have an open-mind to music as I do and a fan of Adams, you should give it a try and not treat it as a life & death situation. Music is fun and let it be that. Aloha~~~

Well unlike a number of reviewers I have a different take on this album. Whilst being an occasional BA fan (especially live) I hadn't realised this album existed till last week when I decided to buy his new album having heard a couple of singles. And to be fair....I prefer this album.

This is Bryan like I've not heard before. The music is more in the background and his vocals are totally exposed and have little or no embellishments. Some classic tracks and some different arrangements..... Never really been a Beach Boys or Dylan fan but Bryan's reworking of God Only Knows and Lay Lady Lay has definitely improved the originals! Anytime At All, I Can't Stop Loving You and Sunny are also fabulous and show what a talented, versatile vocalist Bryan really is, even though I never realised before how much he sounds like Rod Stewart when singing ballads!

So if you're unsure whether to buy this album, I would say for £4.05 (what I paid) you simply cannot go wrong!
