A stranger in the very small, very close-knit California coastal town of Cliffside Bay, Kara feels lost and alone. After a fortuitous visit to the local bar, she finds herself directed to a job placement office. As luck would have it, Brody, one of Cliffside Bay’s most famous residents, needs a live-in nurse to help him take care of two of his ailing family members. Kara is over-qualified for the job, but knows she is in no position to turn it down.
Soon after Kara settles into Brody’s spacious home, she is disheartened to realize that she is falling for him. She knows there are many reasons why this is a bad idea. Brody is guarded; still healing from a broken heart, and the public life he leads is problematic for a girl whose very life depends on staying out of the spotlight. Does Brody have feelings for Kara? And if he does, are the obstacles standing between them too difficult to overcome?
As always, Ms. Thompson has skillfully crafted her novel, introducing her readers to not just one storyline, but three―which every fan happily knows means that there is more coming from Cliffside Bay. Traded is sad and sweet, and every bit as engaging as Ms. Thompson’s previous novels. And, like those previous novels, Traded does not disappoint.
Traded stars Brody, a Super Bowl winning quarter back, and Kara, a nurse practitioner who is placed in witness protection because her father is part of a drug cartel, and she turned state's witness against him. Kara is sent to a small town off the beaten path where she can blend in and disappear. Brody lives with his mother and childhood nanny in the same town so he can blend in and not be distracted by the paparazzi.
Although both have sworn off relationships for their different reasons, it is like an electric storm when they are in the same room together. In Tess Thompson fashion, all of the characters are well developed and come off the pages and by the end of the book, you feel like they are all close friends.
I was drawn into this book from the first few pages and started dreading getting to the end as it was wrapping up. I wanted to stay in the little coastal town and learn more about these amazing people who are not without flaws, but good people at heart.
Will Kara be able to keep her secret of her past life to keep those around her safe? So much is at stake.
So much love and just the right amount of suspense and mystery in Traded: Brody and Kara. I give this book 5 stars and can't wait for another book in this series!
I was given an Early Release copy of Traded so read and give an honest review. I have since purchased 2 copies to gift to my daughters. I really loved this book! Thank you Tess Thompson! Eagerly waiting for the release of book 2 in the series!
Brody is the successful professional quarterback who needs a nurse to help not only with his mother but with their housekeeper as well. Kara has reservations about the job as she needs to keep a low profile and being around a celebrity like Brody may not be her best course of action but with limited options she agrees.
Brody knows that Kara is hiding something and after being burnt in the past he wants to know what it is. Will Brody be able to convince Kara to trust him or will she disappear before that happens?
This is a small town romance story at it’s best and I look forward to the next book in the series.
As with most of Tess Thompson's stories, there are multiple story lines, and a whole host of well developed characters. The secondary love story is sweet and unexpected, yet doesn't feel forced. I like that the characters aren't perfect, they have flaws, and plenty of them.
I did have to mentally recast Brody, as he reminds me of a certain quarterback I despise. Brody and Kara manage to overcome the odds, and I suspect that their story will continue to develop in the series. I'm looking forward to finding out how his fame and her secret can possibly co-exist.
