Detective Alexandra Fox.
It is now a year later and Alex has moved to New York in her hunt for The Escape
Artist. She knows he is there somewhere and is bound and determined to put an
end to him.
She's already running into problems with her new boss. Alex is trying trying to
adjust to the American way of doing things and she's a loner. She's had 3
partners in the last 6 months. And none of them know the real reason she's in
Her supervisor does not like her at all; suspends her for insubordination; and
issues an ultimatum..... solve a trio of high profile infant kidnappings and he
will promote her. If she doesn't solve the case within a week, she needn't come
Her investigation leads to three families, each family has had an infant
daughter kidnapped. But Alex's gut feelings lead her to believe there is a lot
more going on than what the parents are saying. There are dangerous lies and
secrets. And the danger is moving steadily closer to Alex.
The Escape Artist plays a very little part in this story, but he does make an
appearance, much to Alex's surprise.
Alex is a wonderful character. As a British transplant, her British wording and
expressions amuse her American counterparts, while our Americanisms thoroughly
confuse her. Leads to some humorous moments and misunderstandings.
This is a fast-paced, riveting story. I look forward to the next Deception
Many thanks to the author who provided a digital copy in exchange for an honest,
Having read Clever Deception from this duo of Comley and Prather, I couldn't wait for next book. I was
Not disappointed. This story follows Alex Fox to United States as she tracks down the killer. Great new characters. The plot revolves around the kidnapping of 3 babies. Alex and her new side kicks get entwined in a deadly plot of murder and deceit. Kept me totally involved. Now I can't wait for next episode. Highly recommended
I really enjoyed this book. It was another couldn't-put-it-down read. The only negative I have is bringing sex into an otherwise well-written novel. I skipped over what I could. I'm just so tired of reading something that could very well be left out.
Being as my memory is getting bad I, initially, had a rough time keeping all the players straight, but they were all integral to the story and mentioned often enough that I was able to keep them separate and identifiable.
Kudos to the authors for fleshing out the main characters and writing an engrossing and engaging mystery. I highly recommend this title to anyone who reads murder mysteries and isn't put off by sex. While I was totally impressed with the writing and plot line I prefer to read through a book without "averting my eyes" so to speak. Hence my leaving the reading of the remainder of this series to those of you who don't mind reading sex descriptors.
After whetting our appetite with the novella Clever Deception, Linda Prather and Mel Comley delivers Tragic Deception -- a compelling crime drama with an almost unrelenting pace.
Our heroine, sergeant Alex Fox, is in the US to bring to apprehend The Escape Artist, the murderer of her sister.
Fox herself is in need of an escape. She doesn't fit in with her American police counterparts and soon she has only two friends left and only a week to find kidnapped children and The Escape Artist.
This is where life gets even more difficult and The Escape Artist has an unexpected role in Fox's life.
As I've said before, I always appreciate the amount of detail and attention to detail that seems to come naturally to Mel Comley. Teaming her with Linda Prather means twice the writing power and ingenuity.
I found Tragic Deception believable, wonderfully written and well-structured. An absolute joy!
