International edicts have banned all but the ubiquitous self-driving vehicles which are even used to conduct police business, speed injured people to the hospital and put out fires. There are also Googletrucks to transport goods from state to state.
Everything is going along just fine until an unknown criminal element throws a vicious bug into the master software for the Googlefleet and everything grinds to a halt. No police protection, no fire response, no goods being delivered -- and certainly no personal transportation. It's a crisis of unprecedented proportions.
Then, TV actor Desmond Jenson shows up in his 2012 Tesla -- which had been banned along with other non-Googlecars -- but now he has total freedom to roam Los Angeles at will, bypassing dead Googlevehicles and helping transport local police to areas where they're needed.
It's a happy coincidence, and it's just what Jenson and his TV series co-star Mimi Theroux need to prop up previously plummeting ratings. Now a broadcast crew goes with the police -- and Jenson -- everywhere, and a brand-new reality show is born.
The program dominates the channels and propels Desmond and Theroux to superstar status. Now, if only they can do something to bring the Googlefleet back online and end the current crisis. Food is running short and mobs roam the streets in protest.
Finally, a shortlist of probable perpetrators is developed and the action really heats up. It turns out that no less than world domination is at stake and Jenson and Mimi must act fast in coordination with the authorities if a disaster of global proportions is to be avoided.
This brilliant, futuristic mashup goes behind the scenes of Tinseltown and takes its intrepid protagonists for a ride you won’t soon forget as they race to save the earth from its own technological advancements -- while Desmond and Mimi still strive to maintain TV market share.
It's a non-stop, five-star thriller that builds on a highly unique premise. You'll keep turning pages until the very end to arrive breathlessly at the stunning conclusion.
Read The Tragic Flaw for a glimpse into what could be a very near future, where we trust perhaps a little too much to technology.
