Editorial Reviews

Atlanta's Brand New Immortals launch a mystical blend of rock and funk that relies on the chops of former Black Crowes bassist Johnny Colt and the soulful vocals and guitar of David Ryan Harris, formerly of the badn Follow for Now. Track listing includes "Let Me Up," "Kalifornia," "Reasons Why," plus lots more. [Note: This product is an authorized CD-R and is manufactured on demand]

This is such a different, unique sound! I love how they mixed funk and rock together. Each song has its own flavor so they aren't one of the bands in which every song sounds the same. Guitarist's David Ryan-Harris' voice is smooth and nice to listen to, while Johnny Colt and Kenny Cresswell provide the bass and drums. I'm just blown away. I heard "Reasons Why" and thought they were pretty good, but I never knew BNI's CD would be THIS good. You have to get this!

The Brand New Immortals have easily created one of the best albums of the year in Tragic Show. This CD simply rocks! It is funk driven melodic rock that reflects the Pedigree of it's members. David Ryan Harris was formerly the front man for Follow For Now, and more recently produced a solid self titled solo album, while Johnny Colt was the original bass player for the Black Crows. Music lovers are the beneficiaries of their collaboration. This is a fantastic collection of songs that weds David's soulful singing to an intense rock and roll style that creates a quality of music I find missing in mainstream radio today. Let's hope they truly are immortal and keep on making great music for a long, long time.

Every song on this album is solid. The producer, Brendan O'Brien. really makes this music shine.

David Ryan Harris (DRH) plays guitar wonderfully and does outstanding vocals.

According to the website allmusic, all the writing credit goes to bassist Johnny Colt except for one: the epic ballad in 6/8 'If I Had a Dime' goes to Harris. But I don't think this is correct; DRH definately also wrote the song 'Turn Around' also. Anyone familiar with Harris' later solo work will recognize that Harris without question had a very strong hand in the creation of this album. It has David Ryan Harris' sensibility all over it.

DRH's guitar work is somewhat unique in many spots; that is, he's playing chords that fit the song but they are non-standard chord shapes that are 'a little off.' It's hard to describe but the result is especially interesting for guitar players to evaluate, and his playing in these spots ends up somehow ambiguous in a very good way.

DRH is among the best Pop/Rock vocalists. His pitch is close to immaculate; even live he rarely falters. His use of vocal vibrato is as tasteful as I've heard.

I fear that too few fans of DRH know about this ablum but any fan of his will love it. Give it a try.

Every song is a keeper! This is NOT one of those CDs that contains a hit single or two and the rest is just filler. "Tragic Show" is a mix of funk, soul, rock, and the producing wizardry of Brendan O'Brien (Stone Temple Pilots). This Atlanta-based trio has released one of the most satisfying records I've heard in years. I caught them on HBO by accident - they were on HBO's "Reverb" show with Oysterhead and The North Mississippi All-Stars. I tend to be VERY skeptical about buying new music by new bands. The record industry is driven by singles, not albums. So I require a stellar sampling from a band before I will invest in their record. "Tragic Show" is a great record from start to finish. Highlights are "Reasons Why", "Turn Around", and "Table Manners". Be sure you don't confuse this band with The Brand New Heavies. Similar names, different music.

Welcome to a new look at the rock genre. If you're tired of all your rock music sounding the same then Brand New Immortals is what you're looking for. In a world of carbon copies, thankfully, they've set themselves apart as an original.
This is a solid debut by a trio of musicians that have honed their craft for years before coming together to form BNI. Using their musical experience they have created a collection of songs that provide a new look at the face of rock music. From the high energy "Let Me Up" and "Reasons Why" to the more melodic "Turn Around" and "Satellites" this release satisfies in more ways than one.

All I have to say is wow! I bought this CD only having heard 3 songs, "Reasons Why" (a great, radio-worthy song), "Tiny Voices" (very good and catchy), and "Let Me Up" (not my favorite song but still a good song). I was a bit wary of getting the CD but I am so glad I did. The first time I listened to it, I was amazed. Every single song was so well-balanced and beautiful. Now when I listen to it, I don't skip a single track. If you like good rock (and if you like the Black Crowes), you will love Brand New Immortals!
