I purchased these training wheels for my daughters 20" Schwinn bike.

The bolt that is supposed go thru the bike wheel to connect the training wheels together is too short. When I contacted BikepartsUSA where I purchased them thru Amazon.com, this is the email that I received...........................

"I am sorry that the training wheels do not fit but it is not our fault that your bikes axel is not long enough. I am also sorry to inform you that the restocking fee will still be induced because that was not a fault of ours that the wheels did not fit. To return though you do not need a RA number anymore that is our old policy just ship the training wheels back to the address below".

They advertise this product to fit a 20" bike and it does not. Now I have to pay a 15% restocking fee.

I would be careful if you do business with this company.

These training wheels would not tighten enough to stay upright. They kept angling backward. Also, the wheels are adjustable up and down, which I liked at first, but as my son rode along, they would slide up so he would just fall over as he is not ready to have them up that high yet. I've had 3 different people tighten them as tight as possible and they still slide up when he rides. Also, the rubber on the wheels has begun to peel off. We've only had them for a few weeks. Very disappointed.

The training wheels are good quality, they come with two sets of nuts and knobs for different threads on the hub. One could just buy the knobs and use the training wheels that come with just about any child's bicycle. The biggest issue is that these wheels are made to fit a varitey of sizes of child's bike. But as a result, they conflict with the typical chain guard on many medium and small childeren's bikes. I cut a notch in the chain guard to accommodate it, but not everyone will feel so resourcefull.

THIS PRODUCT did not fit a 20" bike. The axle bolts are not long enough on most bikes. They claim it will fit. It does not. I should have read other reviews. Now have found many with same problem. I could not get a refund. THERE IS NO MENTION OF IT BEING A PROBLEM WHEN THE AXLE BOLTS ARE TO SHORT. I CHECKED SEVERAL OTHER BIKES FOUND NONE THIS WOULD FIT ON.

Product states it works for bikes wheel size 12-20". But the bolt for my daughter rear wheel was too small to screw the quick release knobs on, even though her bike is 12". It's a cheap huffy from Walmart, so nicer bikes might fit better. Knobs had bolt sizes 24 and 26 mm I think?

Easy to install. Had to make modification to plastic cover over chain on bike. Bike originally had training wheels on it when purchased for my older child. Didn't get much use out of them as apparently someone too large for the bike sat on it in the store and bent the training wheel bracket. Kept bending, so tossed them. Now that my younger child needed training wheels, I remembered seeing these. As I said, I had to cut away part of the plastic housing around the rear sprocket to accommodate the training wheels, but it was minor and quick. Unlike the original wheels, which were all plastic, these do have rubber "tires". They are a much smoother ride, and seem more sturdy. The flip up came in handy for transporting in the back of the minivan, and I'm sure will be handy when my child's confidence level is up.

I would highly recommend this product.

I purchased this today and wanted to let others know about my experience. I have the gator and have enjoyed the product. We purchased the fold-up training wheels for my son for the convenience of not having to use a wrench to flip up the wheels. The training wheels installed properly, but the knobs used to tighten the wheel to the bike could never be tightened strong enough to secure the training wheel for a safe ride. My son crashed twice during a 1 block ride.

After purchasing the item, I realized that replacing a lock nut that is well tightened with a wrench is poorly replaced by a a knob that is tightened using a human hand. I wouldn't rely on this principle to hold the tires on my car - not secure enough. I do not trust these physics to prevent my child from getting road rash!

Not safe because the lock mechanism is insecure. SHAME on Trail-Gator for putting out this very inferior product for young children. I will be returning it tomorrow.

I bought the trail gator system prior to getting my sons bike and on't think I will ever use them.
Pros:
1. These training wheels are higher quality than the ones that came with my sons bike.
2. The system works well and eliminates the need for tools to rremove the training wheels.

Cons:
1. Decorative chain guard on the 16" CARS bike makes it so these will not fit without modification.

I've figured out that the training wheels that came with the bike are really easy to remove and flip.
Although the stock training wheels aren't as robust, they fit without modification.
Training wheels aren't used for that long of time so I think I'll make due with the ones that came with the bike.
