Review

"The universal appeal here is Dusenbery writing of his military experience from a common-man, citizen-soldier's point of view." -- C. W. Buchholtz, Rocky Mountain News

From the Back Cover

These two men, the author and the illustrator, from opposite sides of the United States served in the same battalion without knowing each other as they went through the harsh ordeal of D. Series in the high Colorado Rockies. They thought their experiences memorable and soon after recorded them. Harris Dusenbery in writing and Wilson Ware in sketches, now for the first time united in this book.

This author lives in my home town. His books are out of print now and I happy to find both of them on Amazon.
Mr. Dusenberry was active in the ski patrol and he autographed both of his books for me. I always check on Amazon BEFORE I do any research for any books. Somehow they seem to always have one listed. Thank you, Amazon.

This book reminds me of some self-published book. I loaned it out to a couple friends at the CO condo, and they felt the same way. Really not much.

I am a fan of the original 10th Mountain Division. I grew up in the Denver area, travel to Vail every year and had the privilege of knowing two of the WWII 10th Mountain soldiers. I bought this copy of the book to give to a nephew who had camped with his family at the Camp Hale site this summer in order for him to get some of the history of the location.

It gives a very good review of the events that went on there as the troops trained to go to war.

This book was bought as a gift for my husband. I knew the author, he just passed away at 101 years. He was a remarkable man - very interesting.
