I can't see the hitch ball in the bed of ...

I can't see the hitch ball in the bed of my truck so backing under my fifth wheel trailer has been a guessing game until now. I have an Andersen Ultimate fifth wheel hitch and by placing the magnetic base of the marker on the bolt in front of the hitch ball, I not only get it lined up perfectly, but the pin box knocks the marker off when I have backed far enough so I no longer have to worry about my tailgate taking a beating by hitting my trailer.

Junk, Don't Waste Your Money

Magnets are strong but because of their rectangular shape the one for the trailer doesn't sit in an solid or upright position. See what I mean by looking at the right side of the product picture. The telescopic parts are flimsy. Think of the bent radio antennas on your old portable radio or boom box. They don't last very long and are easily extented too far and come apart, or bent.

I've seen good ones with fiberglass poles at my local John Deere shop. Cost more, but are worth it. There's another type on Amazon called the "Hitchin Rod", but can't tell from the picture or description if those are fiberglass.

broke within the first week

While ideally this product would work for its intended purpose, the fact is that it is so flimsy that mine was broken the first week I had it. In trying to collapse one of the antenna-like shafts it caught on something and was crimped beyond use immediately. I found a much better device at my local Camping World. The shafts are strong and the magnets are far stronger than the ones on this flimsy device. One day when I was trying to use this one, before it was broken, the wind repeatedly blew it off my trailer hitch. Don't buy it. There are much better products on the market.

Better than nothing

This is the second type of alignment balls I've purchased. The first pair [not magnetic, but plastic]. broke the first time I used them. One of these broke when it was extended and I now have it taped together. The magnets are pretty strong and do stick pretty well; however you might find that configuration of the hitch and ball don't support keeping the rods vertical and aligned. Still they are way better than doing without and they are way cheaper than a backup camera.

Unfortunately, I have two trailers, one conventional and one goose neck. The conventional trailer was so easy to hook up (1st or 2nd trying to align is normal), that I bought a second set (I keep each set with its trailer so I don't have to wonder where it is) for the goose neck; it's just as easy to align.
For the goose neck, I only need one. I mount it on the pickup bed where it contacts the hitch and painted the point where it belongs. Easy!
The tool saves me time and eliminates frustration. Well worth the money.

Not tall enough!

This kit has good potential, but it doesn't extend high enough for me to see over my pickup truck tailgate. And with the tailgate down the end of the tailgate is past the ball. So, worthless for my needs.

I do not have a back-up camera and I often hitch up alone. This is a simple device that does exactly what the manufacturer promised. It made backing up to the hitch a one-stop effort. Also eliminates getting in and out of the tow vehicle to check your alignment to the hitch as you approach it. The antenna style rods collapse for easy storage, the magnets are very strong. When closing it up, do it gently one segment at a time. The rods are not as strong as automobile antenna rods so you might accidentally bend them. Just be careful and they will last forever. Plenty tall enough for SUV and pick-up rear windows and lift gates.

It looks like the picture, and it is very helpful, but it is cheap, cheap, cheap. One of the telescoping poles bent the first time out. The metal used is more flimsy than that of an old AM/FM transistor radio. The concept is great, execution is poor.
