Editorial Reviews

Touring Eastern Europe with her college wrestling team, Alex (Thora Birch) attends a debauched late-night party that causes Alex and several teammates to miss their train to Odessa. Her coach is furious, but a mysterious woman offers the coach and wrestlers a ride on an alternative train. The coach agrees, and the athletes, exhausted and hung over, gratefully climb aboard. But the train harbors a deadly secret, and for Alex and her fellow passengers, a blood-soaked nightmare is just beginning.

This is not the intelligent horror movie the director wants you to think it is. There isn't a single scarey moment in it. It is gross and it is intense. It is also brutally realistic pointless gore with a very lame plot. The actors all do a decent job considering the lame material they have to work with. The Bulgarian actors are especially good.

The story of all this torture being for medical purposes is extremely thin and makes no sense when you think about it. Do people de penile transplants? Do people recover from eye transplants in a matter of hours? Do you really harvest organs with a circular saw in a filthy non-sterile environment? Heck, do you perform any sophisticated medical procedure on a moving train? Don't think so. So, once you come to that conclusion, the story is just idiotic with some great make up. The train can be a great vehicle for a horror movie, but this totally misses the opportunity to be an intelligent, interesting horror movie.

What if we had a torture porn movie...set in a train?!?
Well, you may well have a mess that even the beautiful Thora Birch can't save. Just totally improbable, doesn't make sense, no, no, no. I kept thinking one of the Americans was going to be secretly a bad guy, but it didn't seem so. That at least would have made it interesting. I give it two start instead of one because the first twenty five minute or so were actually pretty good, but after that, just forget it.

The reason why it was okay? So much of the film takes place on a "train" I get that....does it have to be a very, very dark train, I could not see a good deal of the movie because it was so dark. The plot...bunch of morons go out in Russia after being told not to having just completed wrestling matches and get left behind til a kindly Russian lady offers them a ride. The rest is history. The performances are good, the characters less annoying then usual. Gory and can someone tell me why the girls always survive, well in this one she gives up a guy to get away. I especially liked Gideon emery as the assistant coach and Derek Magyar as Thora Birch's boyfriend.

Those pesky, eastern-European organ thieves are at it again! This time they're using a TRAIN to lure, drug, and dismember unwary westerners! Thora Birch (THE HOLE, DARK CORNERS) is part of a US wrestling team trapped aboard the locomotive slaughterhouse! Yes, TRAIN is extremely reminiscent of both HOSTEL and TURISTAS, w/ all of the same unnecessary surgery and torturous death. Ms. Birch isn't bad in this otherwise goofy film. I especially liked her transformation into action-hero at the end. Hilarious! The final conflict is a blast!...

I never thought about it until now, but I actually consider grossness a nice substitute for scariness when it comes to horror films. I say this because Train is really darn gross, but it's only so-so on the scariness scale. The storyline is a bit strange too. Young competitive adult wrestlers take a trip to Russia and while on the train they soon discover something very wrong is occurring- each member of the wrestling team (including the coach) gradually begins to disappear, forcing them to give in to their curiosities and do some exploring.

The coach disappears after Koyna Ruseva lures him into a sex act. He should've known better! Shame on him for figuring it's okay to hit on foreigners what with being an obnoxious American and everything. And another student disappears after a really silly dare that he walk down the hallways naked. Oddly the Russian passengers seem disinterested rather than laughing. In fact the most unusual thing about Train is how the other Russian passengers have no desire to help these American wrestlers during the most desperate times. Instead they sit back and watch but it's not because they're in anything sadistic. I guess they needed something more exciting to watch, lol.

Thora Birch is the star of this movie (which is kind of funny because she doesn't present the wrestler look in my eyes). For the life of me I can't remember what teen movie I watched a couple years ago where she was the main character. She was very memorable and different than the role she plays here. Anyway she turns out to be the main character because other characters such as Gloria Votsis, well let's just say her favorite song is Blue Swede's "Hooked On a Feeling".

Great Scary movie, nice and gory indeed it like as others say Turistas and hostel but, on a train instead. Great Hungry actors actresses and scenery filming locations though out the movie eastern europe takes place in Russia and into Ukraine, High school students wrustling missed there real train ride and not knowing a lady doctor offers them tickets ride on their train, and later one by one all disappear 4 student 2 teachers & No where to hide on the from the doctors harvisting human organs for transplants to sick people on the same train waiting to be helped and healed and later in a hospital near the end of the rail road line, great movie horror film even if it did not get many stars at all maybe 1 needs 2 and a half or 3 I feel. Buy it Horror lovers.
