When my pot arrived, I washed it well with warm soapy water, rubbing the inside well with a sponge. Then I cooked pasta in it. I thought the pasta water seemed a little bit grey, so I washed the pot well again. Next I tried making medicinal barley water in the pot. I needed to cook it for 3 hours on medium heat in this pot (unlike my Calphalon pot, where it only requires 1.5 hours on low heat). When the barley was done, both it and the water were a dark grey color. This toxic-looking color came from the pot! When I cook my barley in my Calphalon pot, it and the water stay the color of barley.
I then washed the pot well with soap and water, rubbing it well with a good sponge. When I dried it, my new, white dish towel turned grey with every pass over the kettle!
I've never seen such poor quality stainless steel! After three washes, 30 minutes of cooking pasta, and 3 hours of cooking barley, my dish towel still turned grey!
I've asked Amazon if I an return this pot as defective. They say the vendor has 48 hours to decide whether I can return it or not! I'll let you know.
Beware! Don't buy this pot.
Cooks Corner has refunded the price of the pot. They have been very concerned. They are doing testing on this and other Tramontana pots to see if they can duplicate my experience with barley water.
Although the Tramontina tri-ply base (80101) is great to cook with and made-in-Brazil, the sidewalls are very thin and easily dent. I should have gone with the Tramontina tri-ply clad (80116) which is thicker but I didn't want to take the chance with the set being made-in-China.
Very disappointed that Tramontina manufacturers cookware that has sidewalls that are only 1/16" thick.
UPDATE: The design of these pans outweigh the sidewall issue so I revised my review and gave the Gourmet Prima 4 stars instead of 2 stars. My wife really likes them just as they are.
