Top Customer Reviews
Firstly the installation is a bit challenging if you dont have a 24V C wire. If you have an extra wire you can connect the wire on the furnace side and then on the thermostat side. If you dont have an extra wire you have a couple options. You can run a wire or you can get a 24v power adapter, also sold here on Amazon.
Like many other reviewers I was disappointing that I couldn't find the scheduling menu. I guess they expect the scheduling to be managed by Zwave/Nexia. I wanted my Zwave to control the temp on the fly, not for scheduling so I was disappointed. I was about to return it but then I noticed there was a hidden "Installer" menu. After a little more research I found that the scheduling menu is hidden default.
Well you can enable the scheduling by doing the following:
1. Press Menu
2. Hold the two middle buttons until the Installer Settings menu is displayed
3. Scroll to System Settings and press Select
4. Scroll to Sched Enable and press the Plus button to enable scheduling
After Installation and enabling the scheduling I am happy with it. I only had it for a short time so lets see how it holds up.
Installation was fairly simple, following the instructions and labeling the wires off the old thermostat , though I think it helped that we were replacing a modern thermostat as older ones would not have the power wire this requires.
I found programming the thermostat through the app to be much easier than the thermostat itself, but noticed that sometimes if someone changes a setting on the thermostat itself the Vera / Z-Wave system will not reset it once the next program starts - not sure if this problem is related to the thermostat or the Vera system. The thermostat also looses Zwave communication from time to time., usually regaining it within a minute. That and my concern about Trane's lack of warranty support for self installed units were the only reason I took off one star.
Really a very easy install - I'm delighted to have a relatively inexpensive, programmable thermostat that supports Zwave functionality for automation/reporting/remote management (it's my first device and I don't have the bridge yet so can't comment on how all of that works yet).
I'm giving it four stars now, as it's just fine for a regular programmable thermostat but a bit expensive. I'll update (+/-) once I connect/configure it with zwave.
I self installed, I'm an IT guy, and have worked s an electrician. The back light worked for about two weeks. Documents are all on the box and a clear process to install. thermostat continues to work, just no backlight.
Trane says they won't support unless you buy from a dealer, and they say Amazon is not a dealer. (So how are they shipping?)
The unit works great with Zwave system, I just have no backlight.
Thermostat is not stable, it doesn't correctly shows the right temperature in the house. Time to time, temp reading on the screen suddenly falls to 60s and the unit keeps running the heat minimum for 30-45 min and heat in the house reaches 77-78 degrees and then the unit slowly catches up with the right temp reading. But heat becomes unbearable in the house. By the way, I normally set the heat to 71 degrees.
The thing that I don't understand about this thermostat, it doesn't happen all the time and already tried it with two new units.
Before this unit, I had a very old Honeywell 5-2 programmable thermostat and have never had this kind of issue.
I have seen only one bad review regarding the temperature reading of the unit.
I will never buy this product or any other product from this company and advise the same to anyone considers this product.
As the description *should* have made clear to you, this device only works if your HVAC system has a "common" wire (24 Volts AC, usually blue) to feed it. If your system doesn't have one, you'll want an electrician to run a common wire for you -- or else, get one of the battery-powered Z-wave thermostats.
