As soon as it arrived from Amazon Warehouse, I opened the shipping envelope the flash drive came in and I immediately noticed there was no cap on the flash drive. Not a big deal in the least, but a bit surprising since Amazon Warehouse sold it as "like new" and made no indication of the missing cap. So I plugged it into my desktop and it got recognized right away. :) I then proceeded to transfer files to the flash drive and they all transferred relatively quickly. :) :)
Then the next day, I safely removed the flash drive from my desktop and plugged it into my car's USB port (which I've used for countless other USB devices without issue) and that's when the fun started. No matter what I would do, the flash drive would not get recognized in my car. I tried plugging in and unplugging it numerous times and nothing helped. I wasn't able to listen to one song. :( I also tested another flash drive I had and it worked perfectly.
I then went back in my house and plugged the Transcend drive back into the same desktop that I transferred the files from and my desktop would not recognize the drive whether I plugged it into a USB 2.0 port, USB 3.0 or a USB hub. I kept getting the lovely "USB Drive Not Recognized...One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it." message. Ever since then, nothing I have done can bring back this flash drive. :( :( :(
Thank goodness, Amazon and Amazon Warehouse have such a great return policy, which is why I was willing to take the risk on this drive in the first place. :) Either way, I wish the drive would have worked since I wasn't able to send this in for an exchange through Amazon and didn't feel that I should have to pay for shipping to return the drive to Transcend and then wait weeks for a replacement, especially since I'd question any replacement's durability and quality.
Bottom line, avoid these flash drives like the plague.
The first one died in the first week I had it. The replacement died by the second day. Both died after sticking them in my VW GTI's media port to listen to MP3 audio on the radio. Neither ever worked in the car. You might could blame the GTI, but I've got other USB sticks I've used in it for over a year and they are working fine. Also the replacement Lexar JumpDrive S73 64GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007B6YPN4 works fine in the GTI. Although it isn't as fast as the Transcend. But it doesn't matter if it won't work.
I will say that I also bought the 32 GB version of this same Transcend USB stick and it is still working a month in a half later.
So I would say it is a gamble if you get one that works.
Also I think this is the one that is mislabeled on the packaging it comes in as USB2.
Last fall I purcased a total of 4 Transcend flash drives from you.so far only one has survived.
In case you are wondering where I am now. Looking elsewhere for things to add to my intelligence
department. The 64 gig flash drives have quit. I returned the first one because it quit within 5
days of existence. This past week the 3rd one gave up. Since the "Amazon" warranty is up I have
tried to contact Transcend to no avail.Their web site states "if you get this far you know how to
reach us" Tell that to your customers!
You ask what should other customers do when considering this item? Tell them to stick with SAN-
DISK. I've had their flash drives for at least 4 years, now. After your 30 day warranty is up it's a foolish
person who trusts Transcend for ANYTHING.
In case you are wondering the order number for the LAST 2 is 111-2042414-8751418 11/16/12
I will keep trying with Transcend because they boast a lifetime warranty. Just how long is their
lifetime? Are they still in business?

when connected to USB 2.0 it will work fine, but makes the extra paid money useless.
