Top customer reviews
Fast 83MB/s read speed, the fastest so far in the 16GB budget category.
Weak write speed, 12MB/s. For my own use, write speed is not very important.
I own several 8GB, 16GB, and 32GB USB 3.0 flash drives from different manufacturers. In general, the higher capacity thumb drives have much better performance. However, in this case, the Transcend Jetflash 760 16GB beats the read speed of a larger capacity 32GB version of ADATA's S102 Pro. If, however, write speed is important to you, the Transcend Jetflash 760 test results unfortunately showed 4X slower write speeds than the ADATA S102 32GB.
I plan to use this USB flash drive as a bootable USB multiboot device containing a collection of several Linux and Android variations (distros) plus utilities. Read speed is far more important than write speed for this purpose.

Warning: By default, most USB flash drives are formatted as FAT32. It is best to leave it that way. You may be tempted to reformat to NTFS for added security or to slightly enhance speeds. However, I have personally experienced a problem with NTFS formatted USB flash drives from more than one manufacturer that went into "permanent" READ-ONLY mode. Dozens of solutions from the internet to fix this (apparently common) problem proved to be useless. These NTFS formatted USB flash drives simply became worthless.
Having just purchased this Transcend device, it is a bit premature to give a definite 5 stars, however, I have had good experience with Transcend before, so that is the rating I am giving. If there is a problem later I will change my rating.
So why should you care about speed? Because most compact USB flash drives have abysmally slow write speeds, and when you get to the larger capacities they can take hours and hours to fill. Now if your intent is to load up a bunch of music that you'll plug into your car's entertainment system and not change out too often, then a slow drive might be fine. You can start your copy before you go to bed, and it will probably be finished in the morning (if you get a full 8 hours sleep).
However, if you are an IT, A/V or Graphics Art professional that needs to carry around a large quantity of frequently changing data, most cheap flash drives will not be acceptable. They will kill your productivity (not to mention your patience). This drive, in spite of its bargain price, will not. It's quite fast, and it has held up to nearly two years of pocket carry along with a small flashlight, coins, and other various items.
OK, so I decided to call Transcend because I was so frustrated especially after reading that so many others had the same issue. Turns out if device isn't damaged, they have a data recovery program, and they will replace the drive for free. So if it happens to you, try calling. You can assume this works out if I don't come back and update it to say otherwise.
