When I read the blurb I was excited and the cover is eye catching.
This is a story about a young woman in the early twenties trying to survive with a life her father left behind for her to take care of. She is working multiple jobs just to take care of her sister and pay off a debt that isn't hers when she comes across a man who is sex personified. He is a dark and dangerous man with a past to haunt your dreams. He may just be her savior or is he.
The story started out good and the characters were strong for the most part. It just took a wrong turn through midway and I had a hard time figuring out what was going on. When others characters started showing up in a scene it was very hard to distinguish who was talking. I loved the plot but some of the characters lost their appeal in the middle of the book. They gained it back towards the end but it just could of been a little more you know. This is just my opinion. Read this book if you like everyone has different opinions but I will recommend if you like books like this.
I don't know how I feel about this book. Don't get me wrong it was good - what I read of it anyway. I had to stop reading because for some unknown reason it made me sad. I knew something bad was going to happen. The sense of foreboding was overwhelming and I just couldn't take it. I stopped reading a chapter 17 and skimmed through the rest and of course something bad happened. I wasn't so upset about the kidnapping. I was far more upset about what happened between Juliette and Killian. It was heartbreaking. I literally felt the pain of it and I wasn't even reading the whole thing. However I found myself going back to what I skipped over and reading it. The grand finale at the end wasn't so great. It should have been more elaborate. That epilogue was meh. I was expecting more. It could have been an awesome book if there was more happiness. They were happy times but it didn't feel genuine because it had a looming darkness that overshadowed it. I don't know maybe it's just me. It wasn't bad but it wasn't great either. I hope the next book is better.
The reason I'm writing this review is to encourage others who might pass this book by. Sooo many, including the author herself, commented on this book being DARK. Because of this I was tempted to pass on it. I thought with so many saying this that this book must be beyond gruesome. So horrible that I wouldn't be able to sleep. So it's important to understand the word DARK is very subjective. I have read hundreds of MC books. So it seems my definition of DARK might differ from those readers who don't read that genre, or ones similar to that genre.
Yes, it had moments that were creepy. But not too much. And it all had it's purpose. It not like it was just thrown in there for shock value. Which I think many authors do.
I'm just glad I took the chance and read this book. This is one very talented author. Her wording and phrasing is ....... it's so good, so sharp, so exquisite, it's almost beyond description. And I read a lot. Up to 25 books a month.
Again, the reason I'm writing this is to encourage others that might pass this up. If you can enjoy any MC book from any of the many authors, you can certainly handle this one. As I say, to use the term dark to describe this book is very subjective.I understand the need for readers to be forewarned. But don't be discouraged either.
