The seven week study focuses on the following topics: Salvation, Brokenness, Restoration, Power, Forgiveness, Grace, and Hope.
Each chapter opens with a brief introduction from the author and then some opening questions to warm up the reader. Next comes the video with three key points that are fill in the blank. There is a page and half of blank lines for note taking during the video. Following that is a passage to read from the Bible--conveniently included directly in the guide. For those who may want to underline or make notes by the verse, there is plenty of room. Readers are then given response questions to help them really mine for truth from the Biblical passage. The "Read" and "Response" sections are intended to be done within the group setting sharing with one another their answers to the questions.
The "Dive Deeper" section offers study questions to be done between meetings. The Bible passage is also included here. I love having everything needed in one place, making the study very portable. You can bring it along and work on it over a lunch break or waiting for an appointment. The "Resources" section offers commentary on the passage or additional information to provide insight into the topic. Each chapter then closes with an "Action Point" in which readers are encouraged to take specific action to apply the lesson. I really loved that part of the study--making sure that what is learned doesn't just get filed away but actually practiced and then shared with group members at the next meeting--providing accountability as well.
The Study Guide is a very visual, eye-pleasing book with lots of photographs mixed throughout. The video content serves more as a real-life example of the given topic and how the author grew in that area during his battle with cancer. For anyone who has faced cancer or some other health concern, The Transformational Adventure may help people look at their trials and circumstances in a new light.
One reservation about the study would be some of the discussion on the role of the Holy Spirit. The author espoused a more charismatic view which may create some confusion and/or disagreement among participants. Leaders may want to be prepared with supplementary material to explain their church's stance on that topic.

The topics covered in the sessions include:
The format of this book is beautiful--it is a large size paperback with large print and full-color photos throughout. Scripture verses and references are included. There are blank lines for responding to thought-provoking questions and lined sections for notes and responding to the videos. These guided questions are vital to the study and help you really reflect and internalize the lessons in the sessions.
The Transformational Adventure can be used by an individual or in a group setting. If used in a group setting, there are also sections for individual study between sessions.
Each lesson consists of the following:
Open with open ended questions
Watch the video on the author's website
Take notes from the video
Read a related passage or two of Scripture
Respond to related questions
Dive deeper into Scripture at home
Resources of related Bible commentary, footnotes and a deeper look at the Scriptures
Action steps that may be taken to challenge you during the week.
Author Alan Williams survived heart surgery and then cancer. The videos in the study provide a glimpse into his personal story. The book itself includes some anecdotes from the author's experience, but the content is mostly presented in a general way to make the study relevant to everyone, no matter what their story is. Anyone who has experienced a life-altering event will particularly find hope in this study, but again, The Transformational Adventure offers something for everyone. Even older high school students and college students will enjoy working through this study.
The publisher provided a review copy of The Transformational Study Adventure.
There are seven lessons in The Transformational Adventure, each beginning with a video lesson and presumably discussion within your small group. The study guide is an amendment to the program; intended that the participant will use the study guide between video lessons.
Each chapter includes an area to take notes during the video, a selection of Scripture, an area to respond to questions based on the video, and a section to self-study God's word as you search deeper within His word and your soul to understand better what God intends for you. Overall, it appears well laid out and has me interested in looking into the videos themselves.
The authors, Alan and Inda Williams "had it all" and then cancer struck. The complete program takes participants through their story and welcomes you to respond to God's invitation to live your life with meaning and purpose.
