Product Description

This Generation 1 reissue was built with rubber tires and both metal and plastic parts just like the original! Sticker sheet is included along with an over-sized pistol.

Although this is a toy and Hasbro suggests an age of 5 and up, it is designed more for the serious G1 collector and comes mounted inside a box mimicking the original which is covered with detailed artwork.

This item was produced in 2002 but the box is still in mint condition and factory sealed.

Hot Rod is my favorite Transformers Character of all time. When I was little I begged and begged my parents for Hot Rod for Christmas,my birthday and every other holiday and I never did get him. Finally upon High school graduation I got two gifts. One of which was a Gibson Les Paul modeled after Sully Erna's from Godsmack and...Hot Rod. Bet you can't guess which was my favorite.I was super excited to get Hot Rod finally after waiting 15 fricken years. My grandma always told me "dont worry you'll find him one day" (I would make here sit down and watch Transformers with me...then later on actually got her into Gundam) I never did believe her. So....this is a review 15+ years in the making.

Hot Rod transforms into a modified Lamborghini Countach, Red with flames on the hood and sides...and lets not forget the big yellow spoiler and chrome exaust pipes. Before I actually get into this review I'm pretending any Transformers product that came out after G1 Does not exist so I can give a better review. Vehicle mode is really nice. Rolls super well and like a lot of G1 figures holds into place very well.Hot Rod sports rubber wheels. I prefer that over plastic any day. I think it adds a more realistic touch. There is also a peg hole in the exposed engine block where you can peg in one of two weapons that Hot Rod comes with. I think it looks better with no weapons but that's just me. Vehicle mode is a little over scaled compared to Optimus Prime and Ultra Magnus but Hot Rod can easily fit on Ultra Magnus's Trailer. Hot Rod is also as screen accurate as you're going to get. Some of the G1 Transformers transform ridiculously complex in the show and movie so Hasbro had to compensate in both Vehicle mode and Robot mode.

Transformation is a breeze.

Do you remember having those awesome Transformers when you were a kid and not taking very good care of them? Shame on you! I did the same thing.....BUT! Now is your chance at redemption! This Rodimus Major (known to us old folk as Hot Rod) is a perfect re-issue of the original figure. So for those of you who are twenty-something like I am, you can appreciate the nostelgia of this toy. In fact, buy two (or three or four)! Have one to play with and one to keep in an air-tight box to show the great-grandkids one day when they wanna see REAL toys! Also, be sure to look for Powermaster Optimus Prime and Starscream for Christmas! Makes a great gift for the not-so-little ones on your list! This particular Transformer is easy to transform and the stickers will not rub off with transformations. Just don't put on the stickers for the orange part of the legs, as they WILL rub off, and quickly if you keep changing it back and forth. A great product. I would tell you about how to get other re-issue TFs also, but I think the review disclaimer prohibits me from doing so.

This is one of the few G1 TransFormers I really regretted not buying when I had the chance back in the 80's. I was just like a kid again when I finally got a second chance. For those who grew up in the 80's and never got Hot Rod when they had the chance, like me, don't pass this up. It's rare to get second chances nowadays.
Now, for the technical aspects. This was built exactly like the Hot Rod toy from the 80's. This is very easy to transform. In fact, most Transformers of the time were made to be transformed by kids with little to no problem (unlike some of todays that seemed more aimed towards the adults who grew up back in the day). Even the youngest of children should be able to do it without the instructions.
The only thing that might discourage someone from getting it is the posability. If you're used to the Beast Wars and Robots in Disguise and all their articulation, this may be a bit anti-climatic. The legs don't move, the arms only move at the elbow, etc.
I'd highly recommend this for those who grew up in the 80's, who still love their transformers and never got the chance to get this originally. I'd even recommend it for kids today. It would be a great way to show them what Transformers used to be like.

I had G1 Hot Rod with the black plastic toes back in the day. But I lost him. I guess he had to go to Nebulous to help his fellow Autobots. But now after all these years he went right back to where I got him in the first place on a Toys'r'us shelf. I found him there in his mint sealed box. I just had to take him back home. And this time, his plastic feet have been remodeled by hasbro. Giving his feet a metal look with a touch of gold. Hot Rod is sure brigther than Midas' touch! Lucky I got him before he did because there was only one HotRod left!!!
