Editorial Reviews

Limited 180gm Vinyl LP repressing of this soundtrack to the 1986 animated film. TRANSFORMERS: THE MOVIE was based on the animated TV series by the same name. The film was directed by Nelson Shin, who produced the original Transformers television series, and features the voices of Eric Idle, Judd Nelson, Leonard Nimoy, Casey Kasem, Robert Stack, Lionel Stander, John Moschitta, Jr.., Peter Cullen and Frank Welker. It also marked the final roles for both Orson Welles, who died just days after his last voice recording session for the film, and Scatman Crothers, who died months after it's release. Set to a soundtrack of synth-based incidental music and hard-driving metal music, composed by Vince DiCola, the movie has a decidedly darker tone than the television series. Stan Bush's song 'The Touch', which prominently featured in the film, was originally written for the Sylvester Stallone movie COBRA. The movie also features other well-known songs including 'Instruments of Destruction' by NRG, Stan Bush's song 'Dare', two songs by Spectre General, 'Nothin's Gonna Stand in Our Way', 'Hunger' as well as 'Weird Al' Yankovic's song 'Dare to Be Stupid'. The TRANSFORMERS theme song for the movie was performed by the band Lion.

I wont' get into how I grew up on Transformers as a kid in the 80's, or how I only rediscovered this excellent soundtrack just a year ago. I don't want to bore you. But what I will tell you is that this is hands-down one of the BEST, most AWESOME rock soundtracks ever made. Every single track is a 80's rock killer! And Vince DiCola's 80's synth score tracks are just as on point. This is one of those rare albums where every single track rules, and you can actually listen to it from beginning to end without having to cherry pick random songs. The entire thing rocks! Here's a quick story. I played this for my movie group after we just finished a movie and were hanging out for a bit. Of course they all knew it was the score once the redone and heavy rock track of the Transformers theme song came on, but after about half an hour, a few of them stopped me and said "Is this still Transformers?". They couldn't believe how awesome the songs were. That put a big smile on my face. :)

I already have cassette and CD versions of TRANSFORMERS: THE MOVIE's soundtrack. Now I (finally) have the LP version of the soundtrack. It's a great thing to have. I seriously plan to buy a display case in which to store it. (By the way...I'm 45 years old, and a longtime Transformers fan.)

Having loved this soundtrack since the 80's I have looked for an original Vinyl for many years. I was super excited to see this re-released. The Artwork is spot on from the original. The Vinyl looks like the original, except for the heavier feel (180g).
The sound quality is great. It's better than my CD.

Description of the item says it's a limited release which should have meant a pressing on blue vinyl. It's just plain black though. That combined with poor quality album artwork gives this a three star. Sound quality is fine.

I bought this expecting it to be the transparent blue vinyl, because thats what this release was, but instead I got a plain black vinyl instead of the blue one this was supposed to be. Not happy about that.

The 2014 Reissue of Transformers :The movie soundtrack is stunning! Pin drop silence between tracks, and one hell of a mastering job. WORTH THE PRICE!

So glad that this got re-released on vinyl! I'd been hunting for it for quite a while, but didn't want to pay three figures for it. Audio quality is a little spotty depending on the track. The Stan Bush and especially the Vince DiCola tracks sound much cleaner, broader, and fuller compared to the CD versions I have. On the other hand, the Spectre General and "Wierd Al" Yankovic tracks sound a little mushy in spots. They're at least on par with the CD releases, but I would have expected them to sound at least slightly cleaner on vinyl.

Probably the biggest let down is the artwork. It's pretty obvious that it's a scan of the original artwork. It's all just a little fuzzy and soft. About the only parts that are perfectly sharp are the barcode and At The Movies logos. From a distance it's fine, but when it's in your hand it IS noticeable. If the artwork were cleaner, I'd give this 5 stars.
