I am a Management Consultant that primarily supports Federal clients. This book provided a framework for many of the factors affecting the agencies I support and ideas about how I can help my clients improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the projects, programs, and/or organizations they lead. The chapter related to procurement (Chapter 8) was especially insightful and allowed me to better understand many of the barriers my clients face in securing the contract support they need.
This book is recommended reading if you work in the Federal Government. Whether you are a politician, political appointee, agency leader, manager, individual contributor, or a consultant/contractor, this book provides a real-world perspective on topics such as reforming civil service, improving the procurement process, and integrating technology in a more strategic and effective manner.
Ever wonder why the government often seems inefficient? Steve has the answers. Drawing on his vast experience and understanding of the business of government, Steve's insights are both entertaining and well-informed.
I highly recommend this book for all students of government, old and young.
