- Reviewed in the United States on April 21, 2020A story that people of faith and family need to read. What Satan meant for harm through flesh and blood, God turned for the good. Many can be healed by the truth that is revealed through Walt's painful raw story. We tend to judge what we don't understand and my eyes and heart are seeing more clearly. He tried so hard to get help all of his life. The damage brought on by those who were supposed to guide and protect him, were hiding behind titles. His life is proof of who the author and finisher is and the story ended well.

- Reviewed in the United States on May 16, 2019Makes a very valid point that this issue needs to be looked at much deeper than is common. Not every one who feels transgender is. Many have other issues that just manifest this way and can possibly be solved. Though this book doesn't really address the rest of us, I think that we can all benefit from the realization and admission that one size does not fit all. I recommend this book as good research , because I believe that all sides should be looked at very carefully before making such a serious, life altering diagnosis.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 28, 2021This book contains an amazing story of a very broken person, who finds healing to be the person he was created to be, instead of a twisted desire to be something different. It can help give us compassion for people who are encountering heart-wrenching pain. For Christians, it can help people not judge transgender people as “wrong,” but to see and have compassion on their pain instead.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 18, 2019I must say I had a hard time putting it down last night, even though I needed my sleep. Walt is fearless in his honesty and unflinching in laying out his past, giving honor to even his abusers. I am impressed and even though Walt had such a hard row to hoe, his story is incredible. I’m only a few chapters in, can’t wait to finish it. A true page turner. I love what the LORD can do with a life.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 24, 2019I wonder now if most cases of gender dysphoria are similar to Walt's diagnosis. Great depth telling of this story, I feel I really have an understanding now. I'm hopeful my church can stand in the gap for someone "scary".

CathyReviewed in Canada on January 19, 20185.0 out of 5 stars Wow I finished the book in one reading! Its 3 AM!
The book is very very well written. The book has inspired/taught me to be more compassionate towards people who are going through this complex and seemingly hopeless issues. But it also has shown me that God's miracle, promises and restoration are available 100% to anyone who's willing to fight for God's heart and His original design. Despite Walt's relapses and weaknesses and failures, I'm amazed how He managed to get back up again and again and CHOOSE to surround himself with his Christian brothers and sisters. Which later allowed God to work His miracles through His people.
A PartingtonReviewed in Australia on March 21, 20175.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic book!
The wonderful thing about this book is Walt Heyer's complete honesty. His is really a painful, gripping story and this is one of the best autobiographies I've ever read. I feel it has helped me to understand something of what a transgender person is going through, and reaffirms what I already believed: that the Christian community must be willing to engage with, accept and love the people who arrive at the door to the church, no matter what stage they're at, how many problems they have, no matter who they are. Many of us have a story to tell involving our own excruciating pains - but few stories compare to Walt's story in terms of pain, confusion etc. But also, the marvellous healing Jesus Christ has done in his life is such a witness to God's goodness!

Presented in a very even-handed, objective manner. This is not a book about blame, pointing fingers, or any of that type of attitude. It is an honest look at one person's walk, what went wrong along the way, and how it might go better for others.
