Shelli has it all: great friends, a loving family, and a man who's been by her side for almost a decade. They finally manage to tie the knot, and then a string of bad luck seems to follow Shelli. She manages to make it to New Orleans for her best friend's wedding, and then all Hell breaks loose for her. Suddenly she's caught in a whirlwind, slowly losing her mind, body, and soul and driving away all those who love her. What's wrong with her? Why has her personality suddenly done a 180? And can she be pulled back from the brink before it's too late?
This is an incredibly powerful story. I'll admit, I was wondering when it was going to get to the "good part" during the beginning with the discussions of gowns and wedding affairs. However, once New Orleans was in the picture, I longed to go back to the simpler times! Shelli's time in New Orleans is incredibly rough, and what she puts everyone through--not only her family and friends but also her own body and mind--is nothing short of horrible. I actually cried a couple times--for her, for Zach, for her family. I read it all in a single day, as I couldn't bear to put it down without knowing what happened to everyone. This book is not for the faint of heart (there's strong language, alcohol abuse, and sexual acts bordering along depravity), but I would recommend it as a true story of transformation, how a loving girl complete changed her whole way of thinking and acting, and how she worked to find herself again.
I'm not going into the details of the plot because the reader needs to discover them on his/her own. I don't want to spoil a great story.
