Product Description

A Colored Overlay is a colored, but transparent, plastic sheet or acetate that is placed on top of reading or copy text. Its purpose is to minimize the discomfort of glare from a white page and to mask the visual perceptual effects that can make reading unpleasant, or even impossible, for some individuals. Perfect for Christmas tree light

I bought a mid-century aluminum Christmas tree at an auction and then went on a search for the round revolving light that turns the tree yellow, blue, green, and red. I found one on EBay but found the acrylics were faded when it arrived. Bought these overlays, cut them to match the old acrylics on the light, glued them on and wow! What a difference. Such vivid colors! May not have used them for their intended purpose, but they worked perfectly. So happy with this purchase!

These are nice enough. Unfortunately, the green is darker than it appears in the picture and therefore not suitable for my purposes. It is a Christmas-tree green while I expected a more bluey green. I know it is difficult to assess tints on a computer screen so it was a gamble ordering these online.

I get very frustrated that so many products use blue lights which are very bright in a dark room when one is trying to sleep. I recently bought an air purifier for my bedroom but each of its buttons light up blue. It has a nighttime mode which makes it run more quietly but doesn’t dim the obnoxious blue light. The only solution since I can’t tape over the buttons and still know which is which to use them, is to create a color filter. Red light has a longer wavelength and unlike blue light, causes less stimulation to the brain and thus is a good filter to use to mute blue light. I have used red colored plastic sheets in the past on an alarm clock with bright blue lit numbers and it worked well at night and didn’t make the numbers too hard to read during the day. This plastic film worked very well for this use as well.

I bought these to cut circles and put on top of my garden landscape lights since the bulbs are not interchangeable. The lights don't get warm, so I didn't need to consider that. I used 2 layers to get the green I wanted. 1 layer was enough to show green - I just wanted a brighter green to match the Xmas lights. All I did was cut a size slightly larger that I could wedge it into the light area. No tape or anything. We had a huge storm last night with a ton of rain and wind and everything was great.

Now that I know these work, I'm going to buy other colors for other holidays.

Slightly pink in my use with a single layer/sheet

UPDATE--February 14, 2020:
I've been using these to modify a particular type of night light for bathrooms. I do have to double-layer them so that they're red rather than slightly pink. I modify them to be red with these leftover sheets, which was cheaper to use instead of buying red LEDs or coloring the LEDs with permanent marker, which fades quickly over time.

It's been great since no small, red night lights exist which operate on both motion and ambient light conditions.

ORIGINAL REVIEW--October 31, 2017:
I used a single sheet to change my Zeo bedsize clock from white to red, but it ended up being a bit pink. I added a second sheet and it seemed red, but blocks a lot of light as a result, unfortunately. This may just be how all of them are, regardless of brand or where you buy it from. They look absolutely red by themselves as sheets, but a single layer seemed to be not as red as I hoped. Overall, I'm happy and wouldn't choose another brand/seller if I had to buy again.

We have dozens of can lights so instead of buying a bunch of green bulbs at $5+ a pop I bought the pack of this and cut a bunch to the size of the holes and taped up for the party. Worked perfectly!
