This paperback book, printed in 1980, has 220 pages plus index. The verbiage might be very good but there are so many of the pictures in black and white, rather than color, than I haven't taken time to read it. Only 8 pages, printed on both sides, are in color.

I find the words well written, inspiring and eloquent verging on brilliant, and if every figure were in color rather than black and white this would be a totally exquisite and luscious book in every way.

Unfortunately the vast majority of the illustrations are not in color. They do well at conveying shading but not hue. Much of watercolor painting does depend on light and dark of course. Some famous works illustrated in B&W can be found in color on http://www.wikiart.org/ but this does not include most of those used to illustrate techniques.

In summary, this is a book written by an eloquent teacher and knowledgeable artist that you may find inspiring.
