Especially enjoyed the chapter on avoiding being a "married single', especially with the advice on both husband and wife coming from different family backgrounds and brought up, so those differences must be well clarified and worked out between the couple, especially regarding how to manage finance, raise kids and the division of labour when it comes to housework. These 3 areas are normally the trap that causes disputes, arguments or even divorce.
I think this is the best book so far, written by Stephen R Covey's son, David, since this book has clarity, is jargons-free, and sincerely to express rather than to impress readers on the so called new paradigms on personal or professional development. This book as presented in a story-telling format reminds me the books like Richest Man in Babylon, One Minute Manager, Who Moved My Cheese, The 4 Laws of Financial Prosperity, and Rich Dad, Poor Dad, or the like, which makes hard information or concepts easy to be digested. Most importantly, this book must have included a lot of personal experiences of David himself in terms of marriage relationship and finance, so you won't feel those are empty talks, they are really time-tested principles and life lessons.
I recommend this one very highly, it reads and flows like a good movie in print!
Instead of giving conventional wisdom, the authors provide a different way of approaching typical downfalls in areas of life such as finances, career, and relationships.
I liked this counter intuitive approach, as I've spent a lot of time working on personal development. That made it worth the purchase for me.
Covey and Mardyks walk the reader through 7 relevant life “traps” by using engaging characters and
creative examples developed through a parable format. The core message, based on the hope that ‘humans can change the trajectory of their lives through wise choices and course corrections’ is refreshing and motivating. I especially liked Trap 3: “The Focus Trap—being mired in the thick of thin things.” It reminded me of Warren Buffet’s saying that “The difference between successful people and really successful people is that the really successful ones say no to just about everything.” Trap 7 is also an inspiring one—“The purpose trap—accumulation, or the ultimate lie we don’t discover until the end.” You can guess what that one is about. The relatable characters and scenarios immediately draw you in. And, the insightful content and detailed guidance can be easily applied.
The book is well structured, which makes it an easy read and a digestible roadmap for success. It would make an excellent addition to your personal development library.
