The MCs acted like a couple of immature teenagers, particularly Tommy. This threw me as, according to my count, he should have been at least 10 to 12 years older than he acted. Tantrums, rebellion, fits of petulant rage that were not age appropriate. Evan was not quite as bad but he also kept making irrational decisions that seemed immature for his age and success and made me as disappointed in him as Tommy was!
Also, there was a lot of detail that was unnecessary and just lengthened the story and slowed the pace. Trivial descriptions of things like their travel, restaurant meals and clothes made the story too long by at least a third. And, this is part of a series with many characters. I had not read the previous books so the frequent scenes involving Tommy's extended family distracted rather than added to the story for me. The author's use of two POVs could have been tighter, too, as it often felt mostly repetitive.
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.
I like it is written in dual POV, which gives the reader both the thoughts and feelings of the main characters. That makes the story even more emotional and captivating. The twists and turns are so unexpected that they made it worth the read.
This story is captivating from start to finish and I read it in one sitting. I am not that into books with MM but I took a chance on this one and it did not disappoint me. It is hot. Tommy and Evan are very different from each other both in behavior and upbringing. Tommy is like a child that has to find his boundaries and Evan is more mature. Can they break each others wall down during this storm?
Absolutely worth the read.
This was my first "attempt" at reading this author, but I don't think I can pursue this.
Although the writing is accurate and error free (what I managed to read...up to 30%),
I found the "bickering/mutual insults" between these two characters to be childish and annoying. I could not waste any more time on this unlikely story.
I also felt that if the author had written the prologue about the shared history and bad blood between the MCs it would have been an improvement. Instead, I found myself frustrated with the back and forth hate talk and never knowing why they despised one another so much.
I think this story had the potential to be a good one, but was unfortunately ruined by weak execution.
I have voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.
