Trauma Queen Paperback – May 31, 2013

2.6 out of 5 stars 3

Lovemme Corazón's debut book, Trauma Queen, is a memoir documenting the struggles of being a child survivor of rape and abuse. Through the use of multi-genre writing (poems, prose, story-telling, etc), this book is a collection of years of journal/diary entries. Lovemme is unapologetically facing the taboo truths of what it means to be a survivor and how that trauma shapes their life.

There are parts of this book that, to be honest, hurt to read. The life that Lovemme has lead hasn't been easy and the memoir does not spare you from any of this.

But it is, also, a book about survival. And a person whose emotions are so complex and beautiful that they take your breath away.

The writing itself is... just. Indescribable. But also simply beautiful. Almost clinical prose at the beginning gives way to lyrical writing towards the end, and the poetry just... beautiful.

I cannot recommend this book enough.

Incredible piece of writing, and an important and heartfelt and living story. I am almost half way through and I can't wait to finish it.
