I only had two issues though hence the four stars: first, the case does have a strong smell to it when you first get it. I have had mine for about 10 days and I can still smell it if i put my nose close to it, but not as strong as it was when i first got it. The first day I got it had placed the case on my pillow for a while and it left a smell on my pillow for that night. So you might want to give it some time to "air out". Second, one of the elastic bands has already broken. Not a particularly huge deal since like I mentioned, the case fits the console (with joy cons attached) snug already. But I was already very careful when lifting the elastic to insert the console and one side already broke and that bothers me. But I will simply send this back and purchase another one which will hopefully last longer. Other than that, I think this is one of the best cases out there for the Switch that isn't crazy expensive either.
Fit/finish is very gray - solid gray - and although I wouldn't call it a "hard case", it certainly has some puncture resistance to it. I feel comfortable tossing this in a backpack and not being worried about my Switch getting damaged. The outside material is not soft or fabric, which is exactly what I prefer. It's a good hybrid hard/soft shell combo.
It's pretty no-frills otherwise. They give you a thin hand-held strap, similar to what would be on a woman's clutch purse, to put on a loop that's part of the case. It was useless to me. There is no packaging either - just a crinkly clear plastic bag. I can see why there may be QA issues per another reviewer - there's absolutely no shipping protection for the case itself while in transit.
You can hold plenty of games, cords and such in the top pouch. In fact - this is the only reason why this gets 4 stars instead of 5. It has a LOT of room for cords. The case isn't bulky by any means, but I'd gladly pay extra for a slimmer case without that silly pouch on the top. It'd save a good half-inch of thickness. All you really need are games + joycons + Switch. I don't see myself bringing any extras along, but I suppose it isn't a bad thing to have.
Overall: very good stuff! I recommend it.
There's also enough extra room inside to store a set of earbuds or a headphone cable (in my case).
I'm only pulling off one star for the initial smell. Yep, you read that right. This thing has a horrible low-quality-plastic smell when you first pull it from it's plastic wrap and open it up. I took it on a flight almost immediately after getting it and had to open and close it as quickly as I could to avoid making enemies of my seat-neighbors.
Eventually, I just left it open in a far corner of the house for a few days and the smell died down while all those lovely off-gassing chemicals worked their way out. Today, it's not noticeable at all.
Overall, worth the price for sure, just beware of the odor issue while it's new.
Nintendo Switch fits nicely with joy cons attached. Elastic bands keep the switch tied to the bottom. I shook the closed case with switch inside a few times and don't feel the switch moving around inside which is good. Plenty of room in top so doesn't feel like there is any pressure coming down on the joy con control sticks.
Quality is ok but not great. Doesn't feel like it will fall apart right away but I imagine it will be pretty banged up in less than a year. That's fine for me for the price. My main complaint is a strong chemical smell. Currently airing out my case and hoping that will go away.
Has room for 8 game cartridges and a mesh net for accessories. A small Type-C USB cable could fit, but I don't think the stock Switch charger would fit well. I have a Type-C cable for my Nexus that works and fits well.
The mesh net could probably fit 3 pairs of Joy Con controllers if nothing else was in it, just to give an idea of how much room is in there.
