About the Author
In September of 1999, Gig became one of a handful of people who has visited every country on earth, making him the most traveled travel agent in the world. According to the Travelers Century Club of Los Angeles, there are 317 countries, and Gig has visited all of them, (many numerous times) plus several no longer considered countries. His quest has taken him on over 2,600 flights covering 3.4 million miles, over 30 cruises, innumerable trains, motor coaches, taxis, cars and even hoofing it when necessary. Local transportation has involved elephants, camels, horses, mules, donkeys and an ostrich.

Gwin is a knowledgeable, passionate traveller. He started early, visiting 42 states by the time he was 18. After college and an Army tour in Vietnam, Gwin guided and then planned high-end tours for Maritz Travel, the largest incentive travel company in the world. He has operated his own travel company since 1979. He was the first travel agent to visit all 320 countries in the world. He is passionate about seeing the best that the world has to offer.
The book's 304 pages include everything you need to know to pick great destinations, see all the highlights and minimize problems.
My favorite chapter covers the "grand tours of the world" (25 in North America and 50 in 11 other regions). Each tour is rated on 7 dimensions (e.g., natural & manmade landmarks, culture & people, food & beverage, local shopping) with a maximum of 5 points on each dimension. Northern France and northern Italy rank highest with 33 points each. Iran ranks lowest with 20 points. Each tour gets a half page or full page description including a picture and a "My Favorite Encounter." The places to visit for China, India and most other tours match closely with my experiences.
Separate chapters are devoted to memorable lodging, America's national parks, restaurants, and museums. A single chapter covers adventure travelling, golf, rodeos, festivals, zoos and botanical gardens.
Perhaps most importantly, Gwin knows how to tell a story. He is like the favorite uncle who has done everything and loves to tell you about his favorite places.
