From the Author
As story wranglers, we began our next project together, the long-form story sharing website Different Office, where we and our photographer spouses, Simone and Daniel, gather stories from self-created, soul-satisfying work spaces.
When we hit story number 7 on Different Office, we began talking about trends across the now 20+ stories we've gathered: trends related to surviving, thriving, and even savoring work (and life!) transitions. And as it turns out, we'd both been unconsciously writing about transitions on our separate blogs for years! What? Yep, this surprised us. So we decided to create the new book A Travel Guide for Transitions: Because Freaking Out About This by Myself Totally Sucks. The book is a collection of some of our individual writings about our own transitions, quotes from the stories we've gathered together, and the playful and vivid drawings that Bas now creates to help us get to the heart of what we're learning. Since we both hate to give advice (most days), the chapters are presented as options we all have when facing transitions.
We strongly suspect that this may be the first of a series of books on transitions, but at this point we don't know that for sure. As with all our work, we didn't plan this book in the traditional sense. We like to float along, creating what we love to create, and allowing our projects to find us. We like to be as surprised as everyone else by what we learn when we go deeper into our own stories and into the stories of others. We love this book. It is quirky. It is even more us. And it is our newest map in the journey and story of our lives. We hope you like it too.

This book has given me the inspiration and ideas on how to be ok with me, the weirdness, the sucky days, and come out ok. I love it - a great read for anyone who feels lost in life or just wants to read about how others are overcoming "normal life" and finding something fantastic by following what they love.
*I'm not sure if you can tell from the preview pages, but the book is packed with whimsical illustrations that really add to the stories and make for a fun easy read.
