WHY ARE THESE PACKING CUBES DIFFERENT?
Compass Rose Packing Cubes have been designed based on the strategies we developed that have helped MILLIONS of people travel carry on only.
We're in the business of packing. In fact, Compass Rose Travel Accessories was founded by the owners of Travel Fashion Girl, a website whose sole purpose is to help travelers pack more efficiently. Designed by travelers for travelers, they're not just traditional packing organizers. They're a carryon packing system.
There are four packing cubes in each set. Each set has two grey and two red packing cubes and each cube features a number from one to four allowing you to maximize organization.
The one of a kind suitcase organizational system enables you to pack using one of six unique packing strategies , which are explained in the included insert.
International carryon sizing so your packing cubes will fit perfectly for a wide range of airlines worldwide.
Versatile packing options. Position the cubes vertically like drawers or stack them flat on top of each other.
Color-coding helps families, friends, and couples share a suitcase. Each member can have their own color to easily identify their belongings.
Structured fabric: so your packing cubes always fit in your suitcase. They don’t bulge or lose shape once filled so you can pack them flat.
Use them at home, too. Organize your daily items in the house, work, school, or your car – they’re not limited to luggage. Not only can you use them to store clothing but you can also use them for toiletries, snacks, electronics, food, and so much more.

As far as quality goes, these bags seem great. The fabric is very sturdy but light. The zippers glide smoothly. And the packs mash down nicely if mild to moderate compression is what you are seeking.
I liked the idea of packing an outfit at a time, with socks, undies, top and bottom all in one pack. I had to adjust a bit, as I didn't plan on bringing 8 bras, or 8 pairs of pants/jeans. So a few bags were more lightly packed. (I ended up packing bras in their own pack.) Also, sweaters and light jackets did not fit at all in these packs. Thank goodness I had purchased the other brand which had large cubes for them. After a couple of days, I repacked all the socks and undies in their own bags, and simply left the jeans out of the packs altogether. I felt like I was constantly going through all the packs trying to find something to wear. And, despite the mesh, I couldn't really tell what was in each pack and frequently had to unzip and look. I used one of the other brand's big cubes for dirty clothes.
Overall, I liked using packing cubes in general because:
1) they kept the unused clothes neat.
2) the OCD organizer in me loved the way my suitcase was so easy to pack -- and how beautifully neat it was!
3) they kept the dirty and clean clothes apart much more effectively than other methods I have used, keeping everything smelling clean and fresh
4) I thought i had gotten bedbugs at one hotel. I'm still not sure if I did or not, but it made me feel better to know my pj's were in their own bag, isolated from my other clothes (to SOME degree -- not perfect)
After my eight days, I have decided that these packs would be good for a short trip with only a carry on, especially in warm weather with lighter clothes. I preferred the other brands bags, with the assortment of sizes, but actually the combination of the two was great!
able to (slightly) see what is inside
fits perfectly in a carry on bag, stacked neatly
hard to tell which pack has what without unzipping -- all the exact same size and only two colors -- wish they had been in four colors.
the numbers are not easy to see and therefore not really helpful
although the dimensions make them perfect for carry on luggage, they are a couple of inches longer than the width of a ladies' t-shirt, leaving an awkward gap on the ends
Sometimes I roll my shirts and stuff them in the cubes (that's the compression part of these cubes - the mesh allows you to manually compress the items into the cube). If I don't have a ton of clothes, I just fold them into little rectangles and lay them in the cubes. I fill any empty spaces with small items like socks and underwear. If I pack belts, I run the belts around the clothes along the inside perimeter of the cube, which gives the cube even more stability.
I use the number/color system of the cubes to differentiate between clean and dirty clothes during the trip if I'm moving from one place to another, or at the end of the trip so I can easily tell what can go back in the drawer and what needs to be washed. I always wash clothes during my trips so almost always end up with at least one cube of clean clothes.
Finally, these four cubes fit easily (with plenty of room to spare) into my 17" carryon roller bag. Because they are all the same size and shape, they make the inside of my bag look very organized and neat, which I love. I definitely recommend these cubes! They are better than any others I have used in the past 8 years!
This is what I managed to pack for an upcoming trip to Poland:
Cube #1: 8 tops
Cube #2: 4 bottoms (including jeans!)
Cube #3: 2 sweaters & a fleece
Cube #4: 6 prs of socks, 8 underwear, an extra bra, sleepwear, slipper socks, and thermals
This allowed me room to pack a pair of ballet flats, an extra pair of ankle boots, my toiletry bag, jewelry case and 3 scarves in addition to the packing cubes.
The Compass Rose packing cubes are like magic! I highly recommend watching the videos provided so you can see how to take full advantage of their capabilities. The compression material and amazingly strong zippers allow you to fit so much in a slim cube that hardly takes up any room in your luggage (compared to the medium sized cubes I previously used). I am SOLD!!! It's like watching Mary Poppins' carpet bag in reverse - you can keep stuffing more and more in!
