51cm compact road bike's rear 700 x 25mm tire is ~ 2.5" (floor-to-tire) off the floor when mounted on this trainer.
For front wheel, built a "lift" using scrap wall insulation board. Works a treat. Wall board has some "give" to it so won't be abrasive or otherwise hard on the front tire.
Small step (little kids' bathroom step) next to bike enables me to mount bike w/ out risking life 'n limb...
Vacillated initially on whether this was a prudent purchase. After 1st work out / ride w/ it, I'm confident this was a health-wise investment.
One last thing, for any interested, discovered that Youtube has loads of work out and scenic bike ride videos to watch while riding or working out using fixed / stationary / indoor trainer...
Updated had 4 weeks and going strong! I put on average 10 miles a day every day or the last 4 weeks and changed out rear tire to a smooth and run perfectly quiet. I'm going to be purchasing another one or my wife to ride the same time. Not sure why anyone would pay high price for same performance.
I looked at a lot of reviews online for trainers and decided to take a chance on this one. Since I am more into enjoying riding and not competition, I did not want to spend lots of money, yet I wanted a good trainer. I opted for the fluid type due to reviews stating the noise would be less than that of a magnet trainer. I have not changed my tire and can say that I have no problem listening to my TV while pedaling. I have no complaints from my apartment neighbors, but then again, I live on the ground level too. I change the resistance by using the gears on my bike and it works well. Set up was NOT a problem and I did it by myself (58 years young, 5'2" and just been through a lot of chemo).
I am confident that I will get my $$ worth over the next few months versus the expense of doing rehab elsewhere. I hope this review helps someone!
