I wanted to love this book! Having been a big fan of the other Vogue books and fashion books in general, I had some high expectations for it as I loved the sample images provided.
I quickly learned that this was much different than expected. I've attached a handful of images.. based on these, I would have rated this 5/5.
The problem is, these amazing images are few and far apart. A few in the beginning, a few in the end, and very much different content in the middle.
I was surprised to find that for a LOCATION book, so many photos were close-ups where you had no sense of location. Close-ups between people, or a close up in a model that reveals in the text that it was shot in a cafe somewhere. It seemed to eliminate the big selling point of the book: Locations!
I also found a considerable amount of photos to be blurry, either due to the low-resolution being upscaled to a full page or possibly a slow shutter speed. When you see such sharp photos as those above, the very blurred ones stand out quite a bit.
Another note is that this is not pure a fashion/model on location book, there are quite a few "detail shots" taken within other countries, showcasing something (either a house or a garden). I felt that many of these shots seemed quite outdated compared to the fashion/modeling photos. These aren't the "grand photos" many of us expect, and some of which can be seen in the samples I've added. Going from these to what amounts to a backyard, is a big step.
I also found it a bit odd that some features showed what seem like a single photo while others had 5-6 pages dedicated to them, such as a Naomi Campbell shoot (which I didn't find interesting) and a Nadja one (which I loved!). It seems like it didn't know if it wanted to feature these "stories" (5-6 pages) or just a single photo at times, and I wish it would have kept consistency.
Vogue has some amazing photos, and this book absolutely has some, but ultimate I found this to be a weaker book than the rest. Again, based on my sample images here, I would have given it a 5/5! The rest just brought it down considerably for me.
Unfortunately, my book arrived damaged due to the size. This review does not detract for that, and is in fact a review of the quality of the book itself. Just something to be aware of.
