I bought this book because my wife and I are planning a 10-month international "journey" in 2015. I've been reading everything that I can find on the subject. While most books or blogs simply offer the author's "expert" advice on traveling, packing, etc., Daniel's book was amazing in its honesty. This book isn't just about travel. It's about being human. It's about embracing our fears, understanding our insecurities, and tackling them head-on. Most importantly, Daniel's book made me truly understand that a "perfectly meaningful" travel experience can not be planned. It just sorta happens.

Great job, Dan! Great job on traveling for a year to out of the way, sometimes difficult, places and to doing it on little money. Great job on telling the story of your trip in this book. I look forward to more of your writing in the future.

Daniel's writing is comedic and entertaining, and allows you to envision a variety of places in the world without portraying those countries in a one-dimensional way. The book is a fast read and very engrossing. I'd definitely recommend it for travelers and dreamers alike!

What a journey! This is the account of a young writer called Daniel who decided to disconnect himself from 'The Matrix' and travel the world for a year. This involving read manages to be poetic, dramatic, tear-jerking and uplifting all in one. For anyone who's ever hit the road for long term travelling, there's plenty in here that'll bring it all back: The highs of meeting wonderful new people in exotic places...The loneliness of being alone in a hostel room...The exhilaration and insight that comes from going it alone...The downright disgustingness of budget travel...And the profound changes that 'getting out there' make to a person. I loved every minute of the story because it's packed with dry humour and really nothing is held back from the reader. I'm talking bedbug disasters, mentalist farmers, stoned-out gurus, even stubborn baby goats. Anyone looking for a traveler's book, or indeed those armchair travelers out there, should definitely check this little gem out.

Daniel takes us on a year-long journey around the world. The writing style is novel and funny, occasionally self-deprecating but very comically so. The story is structured as a series of vignettes so it is very easy to read and stays fresh across all chapters; coming from a guy that doesn't read too much, partly due to lack of patience, this means a lot.

Each chapter/month has a geographic novelty and with that comes a lyrical novelty. The stories are interesting and honest, quite down to earth and projecting the feeling of "I could see that happening to me". In that sense if you don't get the chance to travel a lot yourself the book should be a pretty enjoyable read.

I enjoyed the book throughout but I have to really give it to Daniel for such a nice ending. I will not spoil it here; instead I'll just say that I have a thing for endings and want them to be grand, with impact and closure and the book really delivered.

The Traveller is an enjoyable read with good humor and the honest musing of the author and traveler, Baylis. While the reader doesn’t learn much about the places Baylis travels to, we are able to experience the highs and lows of a year-long trip around the world. While occasional Baylis gets a bit whiny and we wonder if his way of traveling the world is really a good one, the book zips along and is recommended for anyone looking to spend a few months or years on the move.

I was honoured to donate a small amount of money to support Daniel in his endeavours to get published and it was worth every penny. Daniel writes with a comedic but heart warming style that made me want to lock the doors a travel on his journey with him. A fantastic and humbling read. A big thumbs up, now click buy and read it for yourself
