Make sure you follow the clean-up recommendations. Unless you are just running on a hard, clean surface (who would do that?) you'll need to rinse the truck off, dry it, and lubricate with WD-40. It's easy though. Just use a garden hose to rinse, an air compressor or leaf blower to dry, and spray all the moving parts. The WD-40 isn't primarily for lubrication, it displaces the water so you don't get rust on the metal or corrosion on the electrical parts.
Buy some tire glue. The tires come pre-glued but if you run this puppy as hard as I do mine, you eventually pull the wheels away from the rims. Clean the joint, add some glue, and you're back on the road in no time.
I added the telemetry system - kinda cool but you probably won't watch it much once the cool factor goes away. If you were running brushless or lithium batteries, the temp / voltage monitors would probably be more important but I've never had a temp problem with my NiMH / brushed setup. It is cool seeing your Motor / Transmission RPM and speed though and the telemetry would be helpful if you want to play around with different gearing.
You'll really enjoy this truck. It's just big and heaving enough to have a "real vehicle" feel without being so large it needs half your garage. It isn't a toy though - at least not for kids without careful supervision. It weighs nearly ten lbs and if you run it into somebody or something at 30 mph, there will be damage - to more than just the truck. There is a training mode though that limits the speed and acceleration to 50% so that might be a good way to start out if you are new to RC models.
I contemplated the brushless edition also, but it is not fully waterproof and was almost $300 more even with non-LiPo batteries. Plus buying the cheaper brushed version left money over for a charger and extra batteries and still came out way ahead on money.
What's Included? Beware of any information you see that is over a year old. Traxxas changes these products fairly often, so 2 year old comments (and some of the Amazon desriptions) don't apply to the new version. It worried me as I didn't want an old version that had been sitting in a warehouse for a couple years. But don't worry about that. Mine came with all the recent updates, the new TQi controller, and new version of the EX-2 speed control with low voltage detection (LVD) to allow LiPo battery use without extra hardware.
A battery charger is not included (just as it says), but the cheap chargers they would have included would charge batteries very slowly, and would only charge NiMH batteries (I wanted the option to step up to LiPo in the future, so bought a charger that can do both). The battery life has varied so far. Only lasts 10-15 minutes when driving in grass in the back yard (grass sucks the batteries fast), but more like 20 minutes on pavement and hard dirt (depending how much high-speed driving I do). It takes 75 minutes to charge a battery at 3 amps (recommended charge rate for the stock batteries). There are two of them, so get an adapter to charge both at the same time, or get an extra set of batteries.
As others have said - order one up, you won't be sorry. And when you first un-box it, you will probably say what I did - Wow! "Monster" is the right name for this thing... it's huge.
ALL i can say is BUY IT!! You can take this truck anywhere and it will take the punishment, but best of all is you can get the truck totally wet and it still goes like a beast thanks to TRAXXAS for finally making everything pretty much water proof, unlike their BL version which you probably wouldn't want to get WET cuz you'll be forking out more money for a new motor. so if you want a fun, FAST and best of all!! GO ANYWHERE truck, this is for YOU!
