I've been flying Drones for a little over a year now. I own ( 2 ) Toruk AEP 10 Pro's and ( 1 ) Toruk AEP 9. They are great drones but were a challenge to learn to fly. They are heavy and powerful and require constant attention while in the air. I've been looking for a smaller, more agile Drone that has better GPS and is more versatile. I did way more research than I had intended, but glad I did. I decided to to go with the Aton 7909. Most of the reviews were good and since support was a big consideration I called Traxxas support before I made the purchase. It took less than two minutes before I had a support Rep on the line. He was extremely helpful and was happy to answer all my questions. This clinched the deal. I placed my order and got my 7909 yesterday. It was packed well and the factory box was well protected. One of the big deciding factors for getting the 7909 was not having to do any calibrations before I was able to fly. There were no irritating firmware upgrades out of the box. It was pretty much just charge the battery, put batteries in the controller and you are ready to go. I did put the landing gear on since I will eventually get a camera. I had already read and studied the owners manual and the quick start guide. Getting the 7909 in the air is quick and easy. The four green LED's let you know the status at a glance and are visible even in direct sunlight. It starts in film mode by default, which is the best mode for beginners. As soon as you take off it will hover at your chosen altitude. It is extremely easy to fly. The controls are laid out well and easy to understand. The controller is light and fits well in your hand. Return to home works well. It landed within a couple of feet from where it acquired the GPS signal. The air brakes button is another great feature.Read more ›

I love the Aton, its an amazing craft at a great price. Lots of fun and really great customer service. make sure to do the firmware upgrade and also all of the calibrations before use. I did have a fly away and had to replace it since I believe it landed at the bottom of a lake which is why I took away a star. It was a mixture of user error and mechanical error. Traxxas was helpful and I have since purchased a replacement.

This quad is one amazing piece of technology! I already have a couple “toy grade” multi-rotors (MJX X600 & Traxxas Alias) but this aircraft is something entirely different. In film mode, it practically flies itself and doesn’t get blown around by the wind like those lighter, less powerful quads. One of the best things for new pilots is the multiple safety features Traxxas has built-in to the flight control system greatly reducing the risk of “flyaways” you so often read about. And watching this thing quickly return to home all by itself - from hundreds of feet away - is truly an amazing thing to witness. The LED lights make it stand out like a beacon at night and even when cruising around at high altitude in the dark, it’s super easy to distinguish front from back.

Haven’t tried it in sports mode yet but have seen enough video of experienced pilots flying the Aton to know it’s blistering speed & stunt capabilities are far beyond my current skill level. But that’s ok because I can’t think of another quad that will be more intuitive & user friendly while I’m practicing to become a better pilot.

Features like Air Brakes & Automatic Return To Home (if battery gets low or Aton is inadvertently flown beyond transmitter or geofence range) let me fly with more confidence knowing I’m less likely to lose or crash it due to pilot error. Of course if you smash it into the ground at 50 mph, no amount of technology is going to prevent some serious damage. So if you’re new like me, start slow & work your way up to more aggressive flying and while you’re at it – you can always put a Go-Pro on the supplied fixed camera mount & capture some pretty decent HD video.

My first large quad so my experance is limited, but here is my input easy to setup very easy to fly my first flight was at night with a 5 to 10 mph wind and 37 degrees, had a blast no problems at all got about 14 mins fly time with the stock battery. Tested out some of the features run the battery down in night flight and it returned to the home location as expected. I will update this as I get additional flight time on the Aton.

I spent a LOT of time trying to decide on various drones in the midrange price of 300-600$, I considered the DJI also. I went with this due to my research of finding out this is a texas company - the drone is made overseas, but they are based in the USA and the customer service is insanely good. You can get a real person within minutes.

I mainly wanted it to take pictures with my gopro, it has all the attachment stuff to make this really easy. Further, it has 'camera/beginner' mode which is great to learn, and two faster modes to play around with. You can get this thing out of sight in terms of how high it will go, has a return home function as well.

I crashed this thing hard, and other than broken fins, the rest of it is fine. Really durable.

I took a risk on this company, but really glad I did, I will buy more from them in future.

Thank you for your purchase and your trust in Traxxas. Yes, we are based out of McKinney, Texas. We pride ourselves on having not just the best customer service in the hobby industry, but one of the best customer service departments of any company period! We are available M-F 8:30am to 9:00pm and anytime via email. When you buy a Traxxas, you are not just buying our engineering and durability, but service after the sale. We are here anytime you have a question or concern.

Just one word of caution, blades are critical to proper flight. The Aton will actually fly with severely damaged blades, but this is not advisable. If you ever have a crash, be sure to replace your blades if they show any damage at all.
