There is an absurd lack of detail, and a massive overabundance of exposition. Overall, this book is the summary of a story, rather than the story itself.
The writing is one-track: when a character is involved in a conversation, they are nowhere and doing nothing, because the book is in dialogue mode. Then it gets in exposition mode, and can never find the actual story mode.
The scant detail that is provided juggles between absurd, anachronistic and contradictory. After the half-way point, characters reminisce about events that the author never bothered to write about. The characters lack unique voices, which makes the gimmicky affectations of the elves and dwarves grate even more.
Challenges are presented and resolved within a couple pages with few lasting consequences. Despite this, by the end of the book nothing has been achieved, and we are basically in the same place we started.
The author clearly has ambition, but could benefit with formal training in writing.
Well worth the money and time.
