There are three POV's in the story, from all three men. I appreciated that this was not a wallow in angst for the disabled veteran. Shane and Julian's bumpy road to love is a big part but it's also about learning how to best support Sean. Sean's thoughts, emotions and struggles are well conveyed and feel quite realistic for his situation. He's gets a bit of his own romance as well!
I'm also very happy to have supported Jessie's fundraising for the Gary Sinise Foundation. Apart from the purchase of the book, there's a fundraiser on JessieGBooks dot com. Highly recommended!
When Sean is injured in a freak accident on a naval ship, Jared Ramos and the Ramos Foundation arrange for Sean's closest people to be there for him. Shane, Sean's best friend and fellow soldier, and Julian, Sean's cousin and closest relative immediately drop everything to be with Sean in the hospital in Jacksonville until he can be transferred to a rehab facility. Shane and Julian are there for each other as they carry the burden of both being there for Shane. The love story that grows between Shane and Sean is heartfelt, slow, endearing, at times heartbreaking, but so genuine that I felt like I was there watching every moment.
Sean's story was written with such authenticity from the author that he could have been any soldier that's been injured in real life. I've read hundreds of stories of soldiers trying to put their lives back together after a life altering injury and Sean's was very accurate. He had to learn to cope with his new disability, while relying on Shane and Julian - something no soldier wants to do, they're built to have people rely on them not vice versa. Sean used sarcasm and humor as coping mechanisms to hide the fear and depression he went through. Sean's ending is so amazingly wonderful that I went back and reread it.
There are a host of characters in this book that also appeared in the last book a some from Jessie's other series. I love repeating characters. I love that we already know them and love them. I love that we know they'll do anything that needs to be done with no questions asked.
The author is a wonderful person with huge heart (I know this because I am lucky enough to call her a friend) and a portion of the proceeds from this book are being donated to the Gary Sinise Foundation. Please read this wonderful book in an amazing series, post your review and spread the word to continue to help people.
There are so many twists and turns and I loved it all. The sense of family shines through, even when everything is so uncertain. Love it.
Each character is unique and strong in their own right. Shane completely stole my heart. Seeing his growth, and the truth in his heart-so much swooning.
I need more. The Ramos Foundation will play a big part in future stories, I look forward to watching this world grow and continue to intertwine with the Sizzling Miami men.
The healing, heart and love that is a starring role in this book is all I could ask for. Worth the read in every way!
I would suggest to read the definitions/descriptions at the beginning of the book. It helps you understand some of the terms and what it means. Can't wait for the next one. Please let it be Jared and Aiden :)
