As someone that suffers from depression and anxiety, I have always turned to finding a higher self through yoga, meditation and other exercises. While they do help my mood and confidence, they don't exactly change the way I perceive the world. Miranda's lessons in confidence, acceptance and wishful thinking has inspired me to listen and look around more, be more compassionate, grateful, and optimistic, and driven me to pursue more charity work. I'm in the process of making changes to help the environment, and finding a charity or cause to devote my time to. All because this book has inspired me to do so. I find the mantra's at the back very helpful. I wrote down many of them on slips of paper, folded the paper into little origami stars, and put them all in a jar. Now every morning I take a star, unfold it and read my daily mantra.
I should note that I have for many years dreamed of being a Victoria's Secret model, and so advice to chase your dreams and pursue your passion from someone that has achieved what I hope to in the future, is golden.
Finally, I love the flower illustrations in the book, each draw by a different woman. Each flower is beautifully drawn, and very different from the next, and it reminds me that were are all beautiful, but in different ways.
All in all, a lovely book. Hope this is the first of many to come!
I loved this book, and had trouble turning my Kindle off at times. I'm not ashamed that I chose this as my first self help book because it helped me discover things about myself. I no longer linger on what I could have done differently in past situations. I try to live every day as it comes and accept the challenges that come with it. You get a peek into her life, and what it's been like and how she didn't exactly have a smooth ride to where she is today. It's a very zen book and when you feel down about yourself, it's a great book to pick up and just know that there will be days like that; but it's a fleeting feeling when you have a supermodel telling you that you are a beautiful creature in your own respect. People come in all shades, shapes, and sizes. Learning to accept and treasure yourself is the first step to being truly happy.
