Before I read Troy's book, I had dabbled briefly in yoga and was aware of yoga's growing popularity but didn't know the ultimate aims behind those exercises. Nor did I know about other routine yoga practices like nose cleaning and breathing exercises. Reading this excellent book, I got a deep insight into the history, development, and theories behind yoga. It's an extremely informative easy-to-understand guide.
The first section explains the history of yoga's development in India and draws parallels to important religious ideas around the world. Next, the book delves deep into the human body's energy sources and potential source of 'enlightenment', which is stored in all of us. Amazing information!
The rest of the book goes into step by step details on how to release that energy so you can achieve a state of bliss, one ultimate aim of yoga. The steps include cleaning out the respiratory and digestive systems and keeping them clean. The process also entails various breathing exercises and body stretches to keep energy flowing properly. With dedicated practice and cleaning, participants can eventually release the greatest stored energy to attain Nirvana.
I learned so much reading Tree of Life! It was very well explained and easy to understand. The step by step diagrams accompanying several exercises and cleansing routines made it easy to begin yoga on my own- at least to get started. There's even a weekly schedule of practices for various levels, from beginning to advanced. Understanding the purpose of all those practices is just as useful.
Tree of Life is an excellent guidebook to yoga and how to go about attaining amazing energy.
