Top Customer Reviews
This was bought as a "tester" piece for my work bench and for benchmark comparison with other bridges ranging from $95 to this, with this being the lowest price unit.
Let's start with Sound, the most important consideration in a bridge.
The unit is ultra light, which is not good in a bridge, where the mass is critical to string energy transfer, which equals Sustain; something you really, really want. The note decay on this unit is very rapid, due to the very light mass. For your ears, this means the note volume and presencs start well, but then quickly weaken; they simply have no "hang time". I tested it on 2 different Strat style bodies, 1 Ash, 1 Alder, with about the same weak results for both.
Next is functionality and cosmetics.
There were no issues with functionality. The string spread is standard metric, meaning it will have no issues with any Asian / European / South American origin instrument, and it will be ever so slightly off on Imperial (English) scale bodies. It intonated fine, but the saddles had much too much hollow spaces, contributing to the light weight and weak sustain; they almost look like "saddle skeletons" as they each have a big gaping hole in the centre.
The plate, saddles, block, all were of very inferior alloy. The paint chips and scrapes off with your fingernail, but I was pleasantly surprised at the strength of the springs. The spring claw is unremarkable, and of the same quality as those that come with the higher priced units. I fear that real steel claws may be a thing of the past.
So, all in all, 2 stars. It will work fine if set up correctly, but it has no "balls".
And yes, it is worth the $10 I paid for it, but I would never install it on one of my performance axes; like I said it is for the bench, and I suspect it will end up as a paper weight in 2 years or less.
the saddles shift a little from side to side, but even the Fender mades do that as well.
I think it's a good product and it's inexpensive.
