This is my second product purchase from NewTrent. I had their original version (IMP500A).

I am so pleased with this new item (IMP50D) that I just purchased another one so our family would have 2 units for a long flight.

I do want to point out one advantage to this product that may not be apparent. When compared to some of their other external batteries, you do not need to use a wall charger (power brick) to charge the battery itslf. This is a HUGE advantage if you want to travel light with as little extra junk as possible. The IMP50D is packaged with a small coiled USB to mini-USB cable that is used to charge the unit. This means you can charge this battery from any usb port (if traveling with your laptop). You can also charge it from the little charging cube that came with your iPhone, like this one Apple USB Power Adapter for iPod/iPhone . This means that the only thing you need to carry is the battery and this little cord. This is a very well thought out design.

Another plus - They seem like genuinely nice folks. I had some questions about my initial order with them a year ago. They responded quickly and politely, even sending me an extra cable I needed at no extra charge. I was very impressed.

After using the IMP50D for several months I am very happy with the performance. I have two and keep them with me wherever I go. It has been a perfect match for my everyday use. I participate in the emergency services field and I need to be able to reliably charge several USB devices if I am in a situation where I do not have available power to plug into. I also use it regularly with I am camping with the Scouts to always ensure I can make a phone call in the event of an emergency. On trips I use it to allow my kids to charge their electronic devices in the car without having to mess with a bunch of cigarette lighter cords.

As an example of how handy this can be for everyday use - this past weekend we were camping and took several hikes - try taking your iPhone4, using the GPS to go Geocaching, and taking pictures and video of the kids. You will drain the iPhone in about 2 to 3 hours without something like an IMP50.

I chose the New Trent product because of the good reputation and recommendation from another co-worker. I specifically chose the IMP50D because #1 - it could charge it iPad. #2 - because it is the largest pack from New Trent that can be charged by USB (I dont want to carry a wall wart with me).

I can generally get 3 to 4 charge cycles on my iphone and blackberry. I get around 50% charge on my iPad, so two IMP50s gets me a full charge for the iPad. I have also used it to recharge iPods, Nintendo DS (with USB cable), mobile hotspot router, FRS/GMRS radios, Flashlights - you name it, if it is USB, this should handle it well.

The IMP50 does like to be used and recharged (even if just a little bit) in order to keep it at peak performance, so I would not recommend throwing it at the bottom of a bag and expect it to be ready 6 weeks later.

If I would recommend any improvement on the IMP50d, it would be to the power button so it can no accidentally be turned off when charging but that is a very minor issue.

As an avid techie, I always seek the best technology available on the market and after looking for a portable power solution for a few of my USB devices I found "the best" with the IMP50D and IMP880P. I have used competing products in the past but the features and build quality of these two portable batteries is truly unmatched. After purchasing the IMP880P and using it for a couple of months my searching for the ultimate portable power/recharger has ended. These devices are currently the best answer to the question of extending the battery life of any USB device when in the difficult position of not being able to utilize a conventional power outlet. Both units are remarkably small yet very powerful and can easily recharge my HTC HD2 several times.
As both a commercial airline pilot (my weekday job), a budding professional photographer (my weekend job) and a power user of every modern electronic gadget, power management has been my Achilles heel in using my electronics throughout the day. Now with both of these powerful charger/backup batteries I have to worry no more since now I have several days of backup power at my disposal and whether they are in my flight gear case or in one of my camera gear cases, their size and weight make them easy to transport.
Performance: A+
Construction: A+
Value: A++

I've had this for a long time and the battery still seems to hold a charge for a LONG time. I use it about every two months, and charge it after. It has gotten me out of a few jams.

The link appears to be for an updated model, so my concerns about output power are most likely OBE.

I'm looking for an excuse to upgrade to a newer model, but my 550 is still a good answer. After hearing complaints about competing companies, including some that are much more expensive, my first choice is New Trent.

It's a good product and works well. My only complaint is that with a total output of 750 mA, it can have trouble with 2 devices at once. I have had mixed successes with 2 devices at once, and have had good results with one at a time.

I recommend this product - for the price point, it's a very good buy.
