I've been naive and optimistic enough to continue buying Tretorns over the past three autumn/winters here in Denmark, where frankly, the weather is not all that extreme. But all three pair have broken in some way over the course of each season, ...by developing leaks, or by having the insoles separate, and yes of course, the heel loop.
My experience with this particular model is like so many of the other commenters on this product, in that the heel loop tore off within the first few days. Just by touching the shoe and inspecting the construction you get a pretty good sense for how cheaply it is made.
They moved production from Sweden to China many years ago and the quality has clearly suffered as a result. I don't mean to imply that quality products can't be made in China, but anytime you outsource manufacturing you take a risk that overall quality of construction will suffer. It clearly does here. But who knows, maybe they were always terrible (?). We'd need an older Swede to tell us.
Regardless, avoid this shoe unless you like it enough to wear it for one season. If you do buy it, know that it is handsome, ...but it's also a waste.
I'm glad I did. They've proven to be reliable enough, comfortable, and, most important for me, waterproof. I wear these for walking and biking through rain and snow, which they've worked great for. They're not the warmest in the world, but they're definitely warmer than my shoes, so I'm not complaining; usually I just wear shoes all winter long.
Bottom line: I'd recommend these. FYI, they fit true-to-size on my feet.
- Nice design
- NOT WATERPROOF
- Heel tab for inserting foot pulls off easily, although it is easily glued back.
- Tread on the bottom is minimal and does not offer good traction on slick surfaces or ice.
Overall these are poor boots. They are NOT WATERPROOF. After having them for a couple months they now leak water on the bottom. I notice that after a day of walking in the rain the inside of the shoe is very damp. This dampness is not from my feet sweating but from some leakage in the show. Additionally, the soles offer such poor traction that I would not buy them again. Even for just walking around the city, slick ice or wet surfaces can be challenging to walk on.
love those, my second pair. there are others on the market maybe a bit better looking but these ones have thick liner so you can even wear them with no socks.
perfect for our climate - rainy, wet and 30-50 degrees (Seattle area)
Don't find the boots particularly warm when riding in weather under 30 degrees.

Only the first day but these are very comfortable. I can see that the pull at the back is not on solid but other than that, a nice rain/snow shoe. Read morePublished 6 months ago by John O'Connor
While I like these as waterproof boots, they do make my feet sweaty, but that was the expectation. These will make better snow boots than rain boots!Published 8 months ago by jd picchietti
Great, stylish rain boots. Comfortable to wear but not much arch support. Protects me from rain very reliably. I bought a size down, and they fit me very well. Read morePublished 9 months ago by Sam Park
