My favorite feature is that it can have hidden wallets which are encrypted with a passphrase. This way, you can have a decoy wallet with a low balance on it, and keep the stash away from anyone that asks, say, at customs. Speaking of stealth, I'm glad this device looks a little cheap, as if it was an AC remote or something, and not like it has nuclear codes on it like the Ledger Nano.
As a neat surprise value, the maker also has a password manager in the works (currently in Beta), which looks promising, and again, should be more secure than using a software-only solution.
Even if you connect the cold device to a computer or phone to access, your keys are still blocked from being seen. A confirmation request is made on the device, and yet your keys are hidden. It's a no brainier!
Seriously take the time and know-how. I learned all this the hard way. I suggest anyone take the necessary precautions with their crypto investments.
Easy to use, safe, and it's nice having something physical. Look at that little guy, so tiny!
Only reason it did not get 5 stars is because the casing is flimsy and the rope broke the plastic off in the first week. Still holds my coin though!!
Finally, after more snooping around, I stumbled upon a web page that said the devices ship without any firmware installed. This should be in big, red blinking font on trevor.io/start ... but is nowhere to be found on that web page, which also contains no other information on how to set up the device. You have to trial and error search around to discover how to actually get the PIN entered, then it is entered again, and finally the 24 recovery words are given. Once that process completes you can run the trezor "wallet" routine from the web browser (again, just trying things), and when I did that and got a device label entered, I get a message "setup failed", with a message that the device was unplugged during the setup process (it wasn't). It does show an account but I have no idea if the setup process worked or not because of this error, and the lack of any organized setup documentation makes this thing worthless as far as I am concerned.
I tossed it in the garbage for that reason and would suggest that anyone wanting a bitcoin wallet search elsewhere. If Trezor would create some setup documentation that actually applies to the device it may be useful, but as it exists now you are on your own trying to get through the process (and in my case that ended with an error that the setup failed due to unplugging the device, when it was never unplugged). Waste of time and money.
(Edit:... apparently my device had some kind of hardware problem and the setup error was real, and prevented any further use of it. So it was dead on arrival, but I'd still leave the documentation comments in place as they need to describe the setup process better at trezor.io/start)
