Product Description
NEW! From AlphaLab, Inc. makers of the original TriField Meter Model 100XE.
The TriField EMF Meter Model TF2 is an AC gaussmeter, AC electric field meter, and radio power density meter in a single unit, that combines all the features needed for fast, accurate measurements of electromagnetic fields (EMF). In addition to standard AC measurement modes, a special frequency weighted mode will properly scale the magnetic and electric measurements to indicate the full magnitude of currents produced by each type of field inside the human body. (If only powerline frequency is present, Standard and Weighted will read the same. If higher frequencies are present, Weighted reads higher). Made in USA by AlphaLab, Inc.
Magnetic (“MAG”) Fields-- Turn the knob to Standard MAG or Weighted MAG. Read the large numerals in the center. In a typical home or office with low EMF, living areas will read 3.0 milligauss or less on Standard MAG and 5.0 milligauss or less on weighted. In a car (gas or electric), the reading may be higher. “Weighted” emphasizes the frequencies that are higher than powerline frequencies, while “Standard” measures all frequencies equally. Some home locations, such as near the breaker box, will have a higher magnetic field. If you rarely or never visit these high-field areas, the high reading is not important. The fields are only important in locations where you spend time.
The magnetic readings show the field at the location where the meter is held, and is independent of how you orient the meter. It is also independent of whether your hand is blocking the meter. However, the electric (“ELEC”) and RF detectors are different. These sensors read the field correctly when the top of the meter is pointed toward the source, but your hand CAN block these fields, so hold the meter by its lower half when measuring electric or RF.
Electric (“ELEC”) fields-- In an electromagnetically quiet home or office, both Standard and Weighted will read less than 50 V/m, but the reading may be higher when the meter is pointed toward fluorescent lights, a wall outlet or switch plate, or an improperly-grounded appliance.
RF-- This meter reads RF and microwaves in the frequency range 20 MHz to 6 GHz. This includes most new 5G installations, but not experimental millimeter wave 5G. Only the total power level from all sources is displayed. No information regarding specific frequencies is displayed.
Digital RF signals are pulsing. This means that the peak power density (see PEAK on the upper left of the screen) is higher than the average power density (main number in center) and you will see the bars pulse up and down if digital RF signals are present. THE MAIN (AVERAGE) NUMBER MAY BE FLUCTUATING. THIS IS A PROPERTY OF DIGITAL SIGNALS; IN THIS CASE, THE PEAK NUMBER IS MORE CONSISTENT. A “smart meter” from your electric power company only pulses about once a minute. To read this pulse strength, hold the TF2 near the “smart meter” and wait for the bars to jump. Then read the PEAK number, which will hold for several seconds. Smart Meters from the gas company pulse much less frequently (perhaps only once a day) so it is difficult to read RF from them, but they pulse so infrequently that it is probably irrelevant. Wi-Fi routers, that are broadcasting, pulse more than once a second. Computers (and other devices that are on line with a WiFi router) emit much less RF power than a router. Microwave ovens leak a significant amount of RF, but it is more continuous, not digital pulses. An RF quiet area will typically have less than 1.000 milliwatts per square meter as a peak (highest PEAK reading after watching the meter for a minute), and 0.200 average (the large numerals). RF can be effectively shielded by placing any metal sheet (aluminum foil or aluminum siding) or metal mesh (aluminum screen door material) between you and the RF source, which is typically a cell tower. Metal sheet or mesh affects RF in the same way that a mirror reflects light. Note that both RF and electric field are affected by where you stand or position your hands relative to the meter. These fields are usually stronger near the surface of your body because you are electrically conductive. If you hold the meter, it will read the field correctly in the vicinity of your hand. If you set the meter down, the reading will often be lower because the field is lower away from your hand. Inside an elevator, the RF and electric field are essentially zero. Unlike several other meters which have a false high reading in RF, the TF2 actually reads near zero in this environment. Near zero-field environment can also be achieved by wrapping the meter in aluminum foil (except for a small opening to see the display). This demonstrates how well foil will shield RF and electric field.

The meter arrived with battery already installed. The new case design is smart, modern and high quality. With the backlight on, the display is remarkably clear and informative. The analog display (the bars) uses a logarithmic scale to convey maximum information at a glance. The digital read-out updates several times a second, frequently enough to track a changing value but still allowing the value to be read. The peak value digital read-out significantly boosts the meter usefulness by capturing short signals that otherwise would not be reflected in the analog or digital read-out. The hold time of the peak read-out is just right.
While initially checking out the meter around the house, I was amazed that holding the meter in front of a loudspeaker produced a field strength display synchronous with the music playing (should not have been amazing, of course). The TF2's extended RF frequency range allowed me to check my 5 GHz WiFi access points and note the intermittent pattern of actual transmissions.
While checking my microwave, I did notice a scale gap since the leakage safety limit at two inches is 5 mw/cm^2 vs. the meter's scale limit of 1000 mw/m^2. The centimeters vs. meters difference results in factor of 10,000, so the safety limit converted to the meter's scale units is 50,000 mw/m^2, far in excess of the meter's measuring range. So it's necessary to take readings at a greater distance. Using a wooden yardstick to position the meter 36 inches away from the microwave reduces the field strength to approximately 1/320 of the value at two inches. When I performed this measurement I found that my 10-year old microwave significantly exceeds the current safety limit, so I'll need to follow up on that.

It occured to me that a microwave oven is not a point source of radiation hence the inverse square law is not accurate at room-sized distances. Then I located a paper on the NIH website entitled "Exposure assessment of microwave ovens and impact on total exposure in WLANs" which includes an adhoc formula mapping the field strength vs. distance. The so-called "path loss exponent" is a parameter in this formula. It would be 2 for the perfect inverse square law. However, for distances less than one metre, and with 275ml water in the microwave oven, the adhoc value (as listed in the paper) is only 1.20.
This change in exponent means that the RF value measured at 36 inches away from the microwave reduces the field strength to just 1/32 of the value at two inches. With this change of calculation my 10-year old microwave oven is just fine for RF leakage.

Nice packaging. Appearance looks better than old 100EX model (TF1).
Stable reading with different battery levels, this model kind of fixed that problem of TF1.
Cons:
After having the first Trifeild 100XE for a while, TF2 seems to be much less sensitive compared to the TF1 which made me doubt about the
accuracy. It looks like TF2 is about 10 times less sensitive than TF1 in either standard or weighted modes even with
new batteries. No consistency between the 2 models. Also the battery life is still short about 12hrs with backlight.
The pricing is relatively high considering the functions/features. The extra
US$30 more from TF1 is not justified.
Update. Not sensitive enough. Looks broken. Other products are better.

It is made in the USA and not in China and yet the price is in the same range as the China product.
I managed to eliminate everything that was harmful in my home by hardwiring Ethernet and bridging my router and getting rid of extension cords that were not needed but plugged in, it allowed me to clean up everything harmful.
I take it to area where there are 5G and cell towers and find out the high risk areas and how to protect myself by simply moving to safer areas.
I also learned how grounding myself is so important and how much better I sleep now. All thanks to testing my environment, this is a must have providing you use it properly and do something about it.
Every home should have one.
Best money spent.
Thank you for making this product.
As about rating the apparatus, to be honest I have no idea what I'm doing.
I put the battery in and turned the knobs and it does beep a lot around everything that carries electricity. I was hoping it would contain some booklet with instructions and how to measure things and how to protect from EMF. I searched google but I can't find consistent information just some dudes trying to sell their courses. If anyone has a good link on how to measure what not please let me know.
I had not been feeling well for months, had not been sleeping well for months and went on vacation, in nature close to a lake. Slept like a baby and I healed so much....all those good EMFs form the earth was my medicine. Then, I was anxious about returning home, sure enough I couldn’t sleep again....ordered this meter and checked the house, pulling out the microwave plus ( cause the microwave indications were insane) good thing we barely use it. Then went into the bedroom....and discovered behind the wall, the Meter went off the charts again!!! We were very happy to have this amazing instrument as more and more news about the dangers of EMF’s are coming to the forefront. We’ve pulled the plug on many house hold units and are making necessary changes inside our home. Watch the movie Earthing on YouTube it’s eye opening too. No regrets in this purchase my friends, and my body’s feeling great!!! Thanks Trifeild

One thing I particularly like about this meter is that it measures both the current levels (with a quickly moving animated meter dial) as well as the peak levels. A lot of activity happens very briefly, like a cell phone checking in with a local tower, but our bodies can be strongly effected by these strong but brief bursts. Once you learn how to read the dial, which is actually super-intuitive, you get a good sense of what's going on with both of these. I really appreciate the effort that went into designing this that well, so that we can focus on the measurements and correcting the health issues uncovered.
I've already taken a number of big steps towards cleaning up my EMF environment, and this tool has been very helpful in making me aware of things I never would have thought would be a problem, like the voltage fields from chargers and lots of other things that were close to me for convenience, but now are much further away for health.
I have only one minor complaint: getting the display backlight and the sound to come on took a bit of finessing, as the switches for these are only accessible when the lid to the battery compartment is open. But now that they're on, I probably won't be fussing with them until I have to change the battery, which is lasting a long time. Because I only had to do this once, I'm still giving this a 5 star rating.
