The Trials of Cuchulain: Book I of the Tír na nÓg Trilogy Kindle Edition

5.0 5.0 out of 5 stars 2 ratings

Emery's an entirely normal seventeen-year-old with an entirely normal life, until a stranger shows up just to stare at her . . . and stare . . . and stare. Then the really weird things start happening: a friend vanishes into thin air, warriors and antlered monsters battle in the woods, and a druid takes up residence in Emery's mother's she-shed. When the staring stranger begins making outrageous claims about a relationship they couldn't possibly share, the girl is forced to figure out whether her life is more myth and magic than she'd ever realized.

As I writer, I've come a long way! I began writing middle grade fiction many years ago, moved into YA, and now write adult horror. My interests include folklore, mythology, the macabre, obscure monsters, allusion, bizarre connections and coincidences, antiheroes and Byronic heroes and characters with dark secrets and troubled pasts, and anything that makes me question whether "There are older and fouler things than Orcs in the deep places of the world." As far as genre, I write almost everything with a setting in our world and invite mystery, horror, and magic to intersect with it.

I have great confidence in my ability to craft a well-written, entertaining, fast-paced read, and while my technical skills are strong, please know that I am my own proofreader and editor, and an occasional typo may make its way into my works.

I do have an author website at sqmcgrath dot com where you will find media and links to my socials, if those interest you.

I am a huge fan and avid reader of YA fantasy. This book is a great start to a fantasy trilogy by SQ McGrath. Emery is an engaging character, and her teenage life is very relatable. Her world is upended when a warrior and a druid show up at her high school. The juxtaposition of the life of an American teenager with Irish mythology is exciting and fun, and I was turning the page as quickly as possible until the very end. The end was a cliffhanger, and I can't wait to get to the next book! I think that fans of other YA fantasy authors like Cassandra Clare and Sarah J. Maas will love this series.

This book was the perfect relaxing read in between some of the more serious non-fiction that I like. I felt transported into another world with druids, evil shadows, and a noble hero. It's great YA literature that I breezed through and I couldn't wait to begin the second book. Appropriate for both teens and adults looking for fun!
