"The writing is engaging and I was drawn in from the beginning... it's clear that Keller has begun addressing the questions that believers have when they don't understand why God is letting them go through great difficulties. I'm looking forward to where he's going with that in the next installments." - David Parks, Director of the Global Center at Beeson Divinity School
"A jarring tale... definitely looking forward to the sequels." - Jackie Donnelly, Goodreads reviewer--This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.
About the Author
Thane is a graduate of the Virginia Military Institute with a degree in psychology and a minor in English. Following college, Thane married his high school sweetheart Sarah, and started his career as a cavalryman in the United States Army. After over twelve years of service, he has deployed to both Iraq and Afghanistan where he was personally engaged in ground combat. His service has thus far earned him two Bronze Stars and numerous other awards and decorations. Relying on his psychology background, military experience, and Christian faith, Thane writes novels that seek to explore human nature under dire circumstances, the reality of pain and suffering, and the resilience of individuals to accomplish super human feats. Thane's hopes are that as readers experience his character's journey through the gift of reading, readers will be greater equipped to endure the inevitable ups and downs in life itself and dream to accomplish greater things. In addition to his wife Sarah, Thane is blessed to have three wonderful boys that do all they can to keep him from pursuing his love of writing.

The writing is engaging and I was drawn in from the beginning. Thane Keller is a soldier writing about a soldier and the realism across in his storytelling. He clearly has a knowledge of warfare and science - or at least enough to fool a layman like myself - but doesn't overburden the flow of things with too many details (This is the reason I can't read Tom Clancy - not interested in the entire history of every gun used in a novel).
What does interest me are the greater themes of life and this book is both entertaining and engaging on this level as well. While we only have book one, it's clear that Keller has begun addressing the questions that believers have when they don't understand why God is letting them go through great difficulties. I'm looking forward to where he's going with that in the next installments. Speaking of God, the names of Jonah, Eve (Evie), Zoe, and Eden fill the novel with biblical references that are well-placed and meaningful.
For now poor Jonah is left in a precarious situation in the belly of Mars. Looking forward to book two!
