This CD is both touching and stunning. Torme is in a string setting, singing crooning Crosby classics like "Moonlight Becomes You," "Please," "But Beautiful," and "Pennies From Heaven." He was still in top form for this early 90's session for Concord Records, Torme actually brings back the magic of Crosby in this touching, and wondeful CD. Highly recommended to fans of both Crosby and Torme, as well as jazz vocal collectors...

Mel Torme's credentials as a jazz improviser have sometimes obscured the fact that, when he sang straight, few could hold a candle to him. He eschews vocal pyrotechnics on this recording in favour of subdued and carefully controlled interpretations, mostly in ballad tempo. Devotees of 30s and 40s songwriting will delight in some choice rarities on the programme, with such gorgeous creations as "I Can't Escape from You" and "My Night to Dream". The lovely orchestrations by Alan Broadbent frame Torme's luscious tones to perfection. One of my favourite vocal records.

Mel, unfortunately, too late. The voice is not there. Still, Mel does put over some nice renditions of "Moonlight Becomes You So," and others. Don't understand the thought behind the first track. Why not just delve right into Bing's songs instead of whatever . . . . There could have been a better collection of Bing's Paramount hits. Still, if you can get, it is still worth a go. It's nice to reminisce. Lost my first copy and was glad to find a replacement.

Wow, this album on the CD format is very relaxing and smooth as velvet. A great album to put on the stereo on a late night when it the rain is falling outside.

Mel's voice has matured; instead of micmicing himself as a young man, he chooses to make the song a part of his mature voice. One really gets the idea that Tony Bennett has learned much from Torme.

He sounds as if he has a cold. I bet that what he has in this album.I bet the producer made him make this album. I have been a collector of Mel's albums for many years andI never heard him sound worse.
